Common - Electric Circus

This is a "love it or hate it" album.Personally, I think its his best. The production proved to be too eclectic for the more narrow-minded listener. Keyboard and beat driven, this album is what headphones are made for. music

Not my favorite Com album, but I dug it. It happens to feature his best track ever . . . "Heaven Somewhere."

Don't forget that

K-O's Atlantis (Hymns for Disco) will be released in the US on 2/20 and is currently available as an import from Canada. It is an excellent album.

On the other side, I of course love Cee Lo's two solo records.

You talk about mainstream and you're pumping Fitty? Fitty is mainstream, son. I respect Nas immensely. Cam is just decent.

On the real, the first couple tracks on this album is some of the rawest hip-hop that's come about in a long time. NaS is one of the rawest when he really puts his mind to it. There's some nice tracks on his latest effort also Hip Hop Is Dead

Personally, i think this was one of the roughest joints to drop within the last couple of years:

Dizzee Rascal - Boy In The Corner

Despite the english accent. wink

and i'll co-sign on the Madvillian, Quasi, Common and even Jay's Black Album

I think that was his point. We need to lose our mainstream bias and listen to popular artists like 50 Cent. lol

I see. I thought he was talking about bias towards mainstream artists. My bad, Krazy.

This is what I said originally:

You talk about mainstream and you're pumping Fitty? Fitty is mainstream, son. I respect Nas immensely. Cam is just decent.
[Edited 1/18/07 9:18am]

But now I understand you're saying that we are biased AGAINST mainstream artists. Ain't necessarily so. Jigga is the ultimate mainstream rapper. If we had a top 10, I'd put Kanye, Gnarls Barkley and OutKast on the list.

But with these so called gangstas, I mean really. What's the difference between'em? Aside from Nasir Jones, whom you rightly respect greatly (as I do), Cam and Fitty and their ilk are not on that level, IMHO. Reasonable minds can disagree.

I would have definitely said this if sexton seven said "of this decade" but he said "the last 5 years". Still, Quasimoto - Unseen gets more play than any of the classics I listed.

Mind you, a lot of the more respectable hip-hop releases of the past several years have come out only on vinyl.

Look, I don't dig Fitty. You might think the "underground" joints I dig are overrated. Reasonable minds can disagree. I simply think that there have been better mainstream albums from 2002-2007 than Fitty's joint, if you want to talk mainstream.
