they're one of those bands who, every few years i think "ya know, i bet i'm missing out on a lot of cool music by not listening to pink floyd - i should give 'em another chance" - then i pick an album and start listening, then i remember why i don't listen to them. one of these days i'll stop.

I's getting downright cliquey in here.
And leave Pink Floyd alone! I swear, if I hear the words pretentious in the same sentence as Pink Floyd just ONE more time.... Think of a new one. Next thing you know someone will come on here and call Beck a "pastiche artist" or something. I don't think any music is pretentious actually. I can't think of anything I would consider to be that way. It's an overused term IMO. Just like "brilliant" is so played out that I can't even bring myself to use it any more relating to music because it's lost it's whole meaning and power for me. Anyway, I was never really a big fan of the original version of that song anyway, but I do love Pink Floyd, and Dave Gilmour's playing in particular. Ya know, I've never heard the original (nor a complete Pink Floyd album for that matter), but I do love Bowie's!
I'm crazy about his cover of "Shapes of Things" too. Zany!

But if it could be applied to only one artist in the history of music, I would give it to Pink Floyd. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! All those noodly, atmospheric solos and obtuse lyrics. I like some fucked up shit that many may dub as pretentious (Velvet Underground, Roxy Music, etc.), but Pink Floyd panders and panders like no other, and I don't get any musical benefit by listening to it. Obviously others do, but I'm just not on board. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

You definitely outhate me on Franz Ferdinand. Coldplay is coffee-table music to me. Something inoffensive and bland enough to display without ruffling many feathers either way- and that really pisses me off. [Edited 1/14/07 14:06pm] Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
