Natalie Merchant's solo career

I've noticed a change in the timbre of NM's voice over the years. Lately, it's seemed sort of harsh, not nearly as gentle as it was during her Maniacs days.

But, I think what Natalie may have lost in her voice is balanced by the growth in her writing. There was a sameness to Tigerlily that got sort of boring. Her style still borders on depressing, at times, but she seems to have more variety in her writing (like on the last album).

And whatever became of the awesome guitarist Jennifer Turner, who was responsible for the bluesy licks from "Tigerlily?" That woman could plaaay.
