Jada Pinkett's band, Wicked Wisdom

Was there a thread on this already? Any reviews from the good folks here?

She sounds like my neighbor's band, but she doesn't growl and I can understand what she's wearing. I like "Bleed All Over Me". She's doing more death metal and I'm not really into that.

I guess I'm a fan. I have both albums. The first one is more sort of neo-ish or whatever the kids all it nowadays. The second one is definitely metal. I liked a few songs on the first one alot Worship Me, Taste Your Fruit, Can't Find Myself, Hearbeat Harmony. The second one had some songs that grew on me after a few listens. I'm glad she's [Jada] doing what she wants to do and not what's expected of her.

I like "Bleed All Over Me". It sounds Jane Child-ish.
She's not that great of a vocalist to me. Not much stage presence. I ain't mad at her for trying, though. Good thing she's married to Big Willie; metal is very much a white male boys club. Its hard enough for black metal bands to do anything and female metal bands as well but a metal band with a black woman as the lead AND she's famous for being an actress (another killer of sincerity in many peoples' eyes). Other than having money behind her, she's got a lot of strikes against her so she must really love it. Hats off to her.

if you want to get black people into rock again you can't scream at us that's for sure, at least not like that, I think black rock should still have a touch of soul to it

My family & friends have considered my musical tastes "weird" because I listen to hard rock(Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Metallica, Godsmack) as much as I do R&B and funk. I've always loved the electric guitar, going back to Hendrix & Zeppelin.

Speak for yourself.

I agree that the vox have to have a lot of soul in 'em, but I dig the loud-ass guitar crubnching headbaging shyt. Then again, when I listen to stuff like that my folks say I'm embracing my "inner white-boy".

WTF! love my family and all but the dorks don't realize I'm jamming FISHBONE, LIVING COLOUR and 24-7 SPYZ!

people read into what I say wrong, and that's my fault I'm not a good writer. I just think you have to reel in the majority of black folks with rock, the kind of rock she was doing was just straight head bang, I can see that reaching a few brothers and sisters but not the black community as a whole

I love rock I play it myself and I wasn't trying to come off like I didn't.

Gosh you know that I received the same comments from my family too. Because one day I will be listening to some Ratt or Guns N Roses and another day, I would be listening to some funk music like Brass Construction and Cameo. I like listening to all types of music except country.

Me too and we need see some more black women getting into rock. The more I learned about Jada the more I realized that she isn't some around the way girl but she is free spirited and eccentric girl like me which I do admired and inspired.

Anyway, I've heard "Something Inside Of Me" and "Bleed All Over Me", and while the grooves are solid, I think Jada needs to work on her vocals a bit. Hats off to her boldness, though.

A black woman singing rock is dead sexy! I can't wait to hear some of her music, even though I'm not particularly into death metal.

I'm not black, but I hope to be a dark skinned lady rock singer one day too. (With a hint of blues and funk though...)

I think I did check her out once. Kina was good, she reminded me of a female Hootie - only better.

I dont listen to rock or metal for vocals so I dont really care what they sound like that much. It's the guitar and drums that drive me.

I don't expect flocks of black folks to come listening to hard-rock, whether the artist is black or white. The main pull for the majority in the community will always be the solo singer (hopefully with back-up band, not tapes). What I hope for is a couple more coloured faces down in the pit with me. I really love when a sistah comes along and brangs it!
