I've still got her opening at the AMA's in the late 80's that my older sis taped at the time. Incredible opening. Infact, its the best opening to one of those events I have seen.

I watched the "vibeology" MTV award recently, and she looks OK to me? Why she has to prove herself by singing live though is beyond me, but its a damn good performance.

That Vibeology performance was a hot mess...and IMHO the thing that started her fast decline and demise.

I'm amazed that I used to own Paula's first album and all the 12" singles 'cos I can't stand them now. The remix album wasn't terrible though. I could still listen to that--also "Promise Of A New Day" from 'Spellbound'.

The org is cool like this so I don't have a problem admitting: The first cassette I bought with my own money was her debut, but I had LONG forgotten about "Knocked Out".

When I think of that song, it reminds me of her performance on the 1990 AMA's.

This is how I remember Paula Abdul love:

"Knocked Out" was very underestimated. That one really hooked me in. That was overall a very strong pop album.

America rarely picks the right winner anyway. Besides, it's highly unlikely any of them will ever be as popular as she was.

I remember seeing a special about the MTV awards and Kurt Loder reffered to it as one of the worst either peroformances of fashion things....He said she was wearing "pajamamas with attitude" and whinced!

nod I remember it for two reasons:
1 - it was silly to ridiculous proportions
2 - the equally ridiculous talk afterwards about how "fat" she was rolleyes

You must be referring to the career-ending performance of "Vibeology" on the 1991 VMA's? confuse I mean, that's the only time I remember people talking about her weight.

Actually, I don't even remember that performance and I watched that show! lol I'm pretty sure it was the 89 show, because I recall an 80s recap and Kurt Loder addressed both the outfit and her decision to descend on a rope. I might be wrong. Maybe it was a 90s wrap? I dunno. Either way, they're both bad outfits!

I do remember this performance from that show. It was the debut of Emotions and I remember confuse over those shorts.

Descendin-on-a-Rope was definitely the `89 performance lol

I don't remember "Emotions" being performed? That was my older sister's music back then.

That version of the song has stuck in my head since that time. She adds an extra run of dolphin calls to the dolphin chorus at the end. In my head, whenever I listen to the album version I still hear it.
