Bowie's "Young Americans" deluxe reissue finally gets a release date!

I still think they skimped on this compared to just HOW much choice material they had to work with. But like a sucker, you know I'll cop it anyway.

from Bowienet:

Well, it's been a long time coming, but the Special Edition CD & DVD of Young Americans finally has a firm release date.

As we predicted over a year ago, (11.16.2005 NEWS: YOUNG AMERICANS COLLECTORS EDITION DUE IN MARCH) the release is due in March...OK, we quibble, so it's a different March, but March it is, and it's the 19th at that.

The two disc set will include some incredible pictorial content in the packaging, (which we hope to give you a sneak preview of well before the release) along with extensive sleevenotes and timeline.

The tracklisting remains as we said it would be in aforementioned news item, and it goes something like this...

Young Americans Special Edition CD & DVD (EMI 351 2582)

Where's Footstompin'? After Today? It's So Hard to Be a Saint in the City? The alternate mix of Right? The flute demo of Fame?

I know. And I'm not quite sure what the point is of including the album twice on the DVD. confuse

Give me something like Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" or any of The Cure ones where the 2nd disc is crammed full of worthwhile goodies.

Leave the super hi-fi Dolby surround sound 3D space age polyphonic pan-n-scan DVD audiophile whatchamacallit as a seperate release for those who care.

I'm definitely skipping this one, but I'm holding my breath for the Station to Station one. Hopefully the tracklisting for that one is more along the lines of the Ziggy 30th Anniversary, which I still think is the best of the bunch.

Unless he dips into his unreleased "The Man Who Fell To Earth" recordings from around the same time, I can't imagine what else he'd include other than possibly the Vancouver rehearsals from his '76 tour which I suppose would be nice to have. shrug

Wasn't 'It's Hard to be a Saint...' from this era? And I'm not too familiar with Bowie's vault material, but seeing as how he doesn't even remember recording the album, I figured there might be some good shit stashed somewhere.

I've read a lot about this era and apparently it took him longer than usual to finish this album because he was so out of it. And because of that, there really isn't anything leftover. The version of "Saint" out there I believe is the "Young Americans" outtake. There is a '76 redo too, but it's not circulating. That's why it would be nice to have those tracks he did for TMWFTE. He seemed proud of them and disappointed that they weren't used for the soundtrack.

1. Scary Monsters
2. Aladdin Sane
3. Earthling
4. Low
5. Ziggy Stardust

i don't know that they're in an order for me. i just know that those five are IT! if they were in some kind of order it might look like this:

station to station
young americans
low
heroes
lodger
(scary monsters usually falling short but sometimes knocking lodger out)
