no, but it's pretty damn good, and I don't even like Courtney

I have to wonder if some of the rumors are true. The songs just sound soooo like Kurt at times.

Actually the songs are more of a Billy Corgan affair. Billy had a massive input in this album, co-writing some of the tunes

you must be thinking of 'live through this', which sounds EXTREMELY kurt-like.

'celebrity skin' is more of a pop record and if anything, has the earmarks of a billy corgan production. in one interview, courtney called it their 'fleetwood mac album', and i can see where she gets that comparison.

Yeah, the tracks I heard were more glossy than Live Through This, and very catchy.

But I wonder if Billy'd like the Fleetwood Mac comparison.

well, it's what she was going for at the time, so at the very least, i'd hope he think he did a successful job of giving her the sound she wanted. shrug

I'm not putting them down, it just seems like he's going for something much darker with his image.

And the album is as much his image as hers (I remember him calling himself the Svengali for the record) at least in his own eyes.

Yes, Celebrity Skin is a fucking wicked album. Awful is an amazing track. I love Live Through This as well, but yeah, some of it is really Nirvana-ish.

If you're saying it's better than A Love Supreme, Kind of Blue, Sgt. Pepper's, There's A Riot Goin' On, Talking Book, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign O' The Times, OK Computer, Aja, Are You Experienced?, and many other albums of that caliber, then that's a really bold statement.

I've never listened to that album, and I don't doubt it's good, but I highly doubt I'd agree with you after listening to it.

i love courtney/hole and i wouldn't even call it the best album ever. not even in the 100 best albums ever. would it belong in the 200 best albums ever? eh, maybe. shrug

Its not worth mentioning in the realm of those albums.

But it has its moments on its own.

It's nowhere near best album ever - I doubt it would even crack the Top 200.

Most people feel that she exploited a cache of unreleased Kurt Cobain compositions to further her own career. No stretch of the imagination there.

with celebrity skin?! no.

i'm sure kurt had more than a little bit of input on 'live through this', if only by way of courtey living with him day in and day out as his wife, and being influenced by his style (and yes, folks, i'm being GENEROUS here lol ).

Well Courtney is like Madonna...they suck the vital energy of their producers and co-writter, and use their ideas!

Hole released two great albums....I find it at least slightly upsetting that the songwriting is questioned on both albums (Billy does get credit for some tracks, of course) but that's the nature of how women are treated in the business. I honestly don't hear all that much Kurt influence on "Live Through This"...Ok, maybe a little but that doesn't mean he wrote them!

yes that's a generous (though not impossible) take on her talent. lol

but se7en raised an interesting point. I wonder if Kurt did have a bunch of unreleased material (maybe just sketches of songs) that she kept for herself. I'm sure not everything he did was organized & sent to ASCAP immediately.

I don't deny that it's possible that she did it herself (& with Billy's help on C.S.) and was merely influenced by Kurt, but I wonder...

It is a good album! Malibu is a really good track too. Not a bad album at all.

Also, I was SO into "Live through this" in my teen years! Courtney Love is crazy as hell but facinating all at the same time..her biographies read better than fiction.

Well he did do a cover of "Landslide" so it's possible he's partial to them.

Yes! It would be the best album ever, if The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Sly Stone, Beach Boys and Jimi Hendrix had never released anything!

Hell, you're talking to someone who for a long time argued Lovesexy was a superior album to Purple Rain. Don't feel bad.

Best album ever? Um, no. cool

Good album? Yeah. Especially the track "Dying". To me, that's the high point. I've always loved that song.
