Hi, I owned the cd at one time(actually traded it in) but by no means is it a bad cd at all. The title track is indeed a classic, though actually Hazel's guitar playing was actually not my cup of tea. I am probably totally alone with my feelings about that track.
Anyway the rest of the cd is defiantely in a more hard rock vein than having a dominate funk sound which their latter albums would have. If you are a fan of Hazel's guitar work I would recommend the cd. The song 'Super Stupid' verges on heavy metal while songs like 'Can You Get To That' and 'You and Your Folks...' are a bit more on the lighter side with much more of a soul sound to them. 'Hit It and Quit It' is another hard rocking song and the ending song 'Wars Of Armeggedon' is of a required taste for some, with both positive and negative reactions by reviewers, but if you love that whole P-FUNK craziness and specifically that Clinton sense of humor that you will probably enjoy the song.

So I would say to you if you enjoyed Funkadelic's first 2 albums than you should easily give this one a try as well. I would also recommend it if you are really into their hard rocking and soul songs as I would say that those are the major 2 styles of sound that this album has going on in it.

Hope I helped you out. If not I apologise in advance.

"Maggot Brain" and "Standing On The Verge" are must haves if you want to dive into Eddie's playing. Eddie picked up the ball right after Jimi on some of the cuts on these LP's. "Hardcore Jollies" has some great playing on it too.

It's just one wicked and incredible album. It was one of the first Funkadelic albums I ever purchased and I loved it. Hit It & Quit It is genius

Awwihgt, I'll have to get hold of it. Can any one tell what other clinton/P-funk albums are must-haves.
On the one nite alone box set I must say that clinton is somewhat dull.

Well, this is a list of P-Funk albums you should get immediately and they aren't in any order:

Mothership Connection
One Nation Under A Groove
Clones of Dr. Funkenstein
Funkentelechy Vs. the Placebo Syndrome
Motor Booty Affair
Funkadelic
Free Your Mind...And Your Ass Will Follow
America Eats Its Young
Cosmic Slop
Uncle Jam Wants You
Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy Baby
Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band (if you can find it)
Bootsy? Player of the Year

Or if you want something simpler, try these:

Music For Your Mother (Funkadelic)
Tear The Roof Off 1974-1980 (Parliament)
The Bootsy Collins Anthology (Bootsy Collins)
