Congressman, Charles Rangel showed up for the private service, when it was over, he came out and waved to the crowd. Also, the head security guy came over across the street to talk to us for a little while. He said he was also called to be in Augusta, GA tomorrow for security purposes as well. Anyway he told us that MJ was to show up and that's why they called him to come down to the Apollo. So when two black limos showed up 40 minutes later and he dashed across the street to it. Only 2 unknowns (1 from each limo) came out and whomever the others were in the limo, security and NYPD directed them to go around the back entrance of the Apollo there, apparently not to stir up the crowd and cause too much excitement. So if it was MJ, we did not get a chance to see him..
Well i was told by one of the officers when i reached the front of the line that Michael did show up and was ushered in through the back entrance on 126th street | |

Okay, have 2 say something about the pictures I posted...I apologise if I upset somebody with them. That of course was't intentional, and yes I did think it over twice if I should post them...mainly the last one. I decided 2 do it because of the many people in the world who didn't have the chance 2 pay respect at The Apollo themselves. Or people at work who had no chance 2 attend or follow live reports on tv, this way they could still have their moment 2 say goodbye 2 the Godfather of Soul.
Please know that I had nothing but good intentions, I posted the pics so that people could think of him the moment it was happening in NYC. Please don't see it as a public display, let's not argue about it anymore okay? That is not appropriate 4 this thread at all. James must have had a last wish that his death would b known 2 the world this way, otherwise there wouldn't have been a public service with press in attendance. In my opinion there's no difference between a live tv report or a picture online in a thread, I like 2 think I have posted them in a respectful way. | |

Actually, I was hopin there WOULD be pics posted here, and I'm glad there are. There's nothing wrong with any of these pics..... and it's not like the last one was shot CLOSE UP, so no big deal.
Anyway, this IS a thread honoring the late funk pioneer, so naturally there would be info (and possibly pictures) posted, and when visiting this thread, people should kinda know that already.  They did WHAT??!....

As Serpan said, he did think about it. I don't see it as offensive. The same picture has been on tv. A lot of us don't have the opportunity or the means to go there and pay our respects in person. So we are doing it this way through the internet. There is nothing horrid or disrepectful about posting the picture of Mr. Brown in his casket. Let's say he was mangled up then that would be in bad taste. I myself viewed it out of curiousity of course, but also to view him and see him one last time paying my respects. I have received not one orgnote in regards to Mr. Brown's casket picture being disrespectful, etc. I could put a warning, warning orgers about an open casket picture - but I believe that most if not all would look anyways to see him one last time. Let's not ruin this thread. We're not here to debate whether there should be a warning or not, at least not openly on this thread. We are all here to pay our last respects - let's keep it that way. If you or anyone else wants to respond to what I have posted, please orgnote me. Let's not destroy what this thread is intended for.

It was nice that he paid respects to Mr. Brown as he had so much influence on his career. | |

I was able to take some of the crowd standing in front of the Apollo, but because it was taken with my cell phone, they are not very clear. I stand corrected for the comment I made earlier about your posting the pic of Mr. Brown's open casket here, and respectfully deleted that comment as I didn't realize it would have stirred up anything here. I realized this is a public forum and not everyone sees things the same, but hopefully are entitled to their opinions. This is a thread honoring someone who was definitely "the hardest working man in show business". and so far I am enjoying all the positive comments and shared stories of Mr. Brown. You did very well posting these pics, and I was able to see what was going because of you, while I was at work. Thanks for taking the time to post these pictures for all to see. I always appreciate the pics you post. Keep doing your thing my friend, and it is always a pleasure to see the pics you post. James Brown band expects to resume touring within weeks
By LARRY NEUMEISTER Associated Press Writer http://www.newsday.com/ne...-apnewyork December 29, 2006, 11:00 AM EST NEW YORK -- James Brown is gone but his band will go on, just as he always wanted. Bassist Fred Thomas, 61, of Brooklyn, said he expects to be practicing with his bandmates within days as they ready themselves to tour in 2007. Thomas said the 11 band members could be ready by mid-January. Brown's agent, Frank Copsidas, said it was more likely that the first date for the band would be sometime in February, perhaps in Los Angeles. He said there was significant interest in the band. Brown, who died Christmas Day, had always told Copsidas the show must go on, even without him. As for the band members, Copsidas said that Brown told him: "Gotta take care of them. They're family. They're like my kids." Meetings are planned for late next week to consider whether the band should bring in a new lead vocal or share the singing duties among the remaining band members, most of whom sing anyway, the agent said. "I told people to write down all their ideas," Copsidas said. "I love to get all the ideas and hear them." Thomas said he thinks the remaining band members can put together an impressive show, even without the man who brought them fame. Brown's death shocked the public because the singer still toured so regularly, even at age 73, but Thomas said it was not so surprising to some like himself who had watched Brown's health deteriorate as he fought the effects of heart disease and diabetes. In the past year, Thomas said, he had pleaded with Brown to pace himself on stage, to show flashes of his flamboyant dance style, but just enough to get the crowd excited. "He'd say, `You're right,"' Thomas said. But then he'd go on stage and dance like he was 16 again, Thomas recalled with a chuckle. "To the last show to see how hard he worked was incredible," he said. "That was his heart. You couldn't stop him." In the same way, he said, the band can't be stopped either. The group consists of three guitarists, two bass players, two drummers, three horns and a percussionist. "We are the only true James Brown funk band in the world and the funk of this band is in demand," Thomas said. No one knows that better than Thomas Hart, a Washington lawyer who sometimes represented Brown in business deals. He noted that trade publications said the value of the Ray Charles catalog grew 10 fold after his death. Hart had no doubt that Brown's death had significantly boosted the value of his work and life story. But he said, "We would gladly trade the value for his presence for one more day." Jonelle Procope, president of the Apollo Theater Foundation, said the famed music hall would be interested in staging a tribute to Brown and having his band perform there. "Sure would, absolutely," she said in an interview at the conclusion of Thursday's public viewing of Brown's body on the Apollo stage where he debuted 50 years ago. "I would very much hope it would be at the Apollo." She said other vocalists will emerge, allowing the band to go on. "Funk is funk," she said. "It still would be infectious." Future performances of any kind by Brown's band would be welcomed by his family, said Brown's nephew Earl Swindell, 54, of Manhattan, who served as a pallbearer Thursday.
