Egyptian Lover was the BEAST back in the mid 80s. I wasn't there, but I do have the KDAY mixtapes and read up on it.

KDAY used to do a radio show with Dr. Dre who spun a lot of stuff from his own group @ the time like World Class Wreckin Cru, LA Dream Team and Bobby Jimmy & The Critters... around that time people in LA were just calling it "Rap" or "Techno Rap"

I loved when RAP had techno in it more. LA used to be very techno'd out with it's rap. If you have JJ FAD's Supersonic it has a lot of L.A. style Techno Rap on Side A.

Nope. Couldn't find the video for Whoridas, either.

Yes the piano is funky and I love the Vaughn Mason "Bounce Rock Skate" sample.

LOL @ public access.

Did you get the Box in your area? I lived in the suburbs so we couldn't get it. I was always pissed when I called my LA city friends on the phone and they had access to all the videos. This one and Hammer's Straight To My Feet and Nationwide Rip Ridas, Young mUrda SQUAD.

Speaking of latino rap remember Lighter Shade of Brown "On A Sunday Afternoon"?

And Eazy E's group Brownside on Ruthless Records.

I remember his name but I wasn't too deep in his catalogue. I believe he also had a long going beef with MC Eiht.

Only track I have from him is his appearance on the classic remix of Luniz's I Got 5 On It.

or...

I swear around the time of MC Hammer's Turn This Mutha Out and Too Short's Short Dog's In The House. BOTH of those emcees but Bay Area rap on the map and brought it out of just being a local thing. It turned all-state by this time. All of California was listening to the Bay Area and this would go on for the entire '90s.

Also, Digital Underground was a huge group during this period.

SEX PACKETS WAS A MONSTER.

okay you got to send me that mess cause i dont own a copy of it lol i just remembered the video actually. they did a spoof of PULP FICTION i believe. and they were drivin around in a car mocking some of the scenes. come to think of it they reminded me of "the clipse" before the clipse. i could see them doin that same song. smile

and my goodness i loved watching the box before school or at nite before bed and remember how u got in trouble cuz the requests were on your phone bill haha
i guess these days the net/youtube kinda cancels out stuff like the box but back then it was shizzy.
