Sam's version is regal.
Aretha's version is somehow "chuchier." I waver between Sam's and Al's versions. Rev. Al took it to "sho-nuff, sho-nuff chuch" at the Rock N'Roll Hall of Fame Museum concert, about a decade or so ago. And, he hit the high note above the high note, showing off his range and whatnot. He also manages to flirt with women and slip in a "hallelujah" or two, all in the same song.
