I have a Soul Christmas album with so many good ones on there that it's hard to pick 5 songs overall. Carla Thomas's "Gee Whiz....it's Christmas" is one of my favorites though....along with Kate Bush's "December Will Be Magic Again". I can't pick just 5. I usually don't really get into playing music until the week of Christmas though.

More traditional....

Silent Night - Mahalia Jackson
Carol of the Bells - Harry Simeone Chorale
Christmastime is Here - Vince Guaraldi Trio
Oh Holy Night - Nat King Cole
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear - The Roches

More recent, less "traditional".....

River - Joni Mitchell (not truly a Christmas song, but I adore it and it's become something of a Christmas standard in recent years)
Happy Xmas (war is over) - John Lennon
Do You Hear What I Hear? - Whitney Houston
She Won't Be Home - Erasure
Snowfall - Manhattan Transfer (omigod.... soooo beautiful.)

These are just a few of my faves... I love Christmas music, and every year I play tons of it during the holidays. cool

I like your list. Notice the one reoccuring consistancy in these lists?
Donny Hathaway - This Christmas. That song is the TRUTH!
I like the Temptation's version of "Rudolph", too. That was great.

It's really one of the most amazing albums I've ever heard. It was released in 1982 and has gone on to sell millions of albums. Here is AMG's review:

5 stars

The mother of all solo instrumental albums, and with good reason. Mixing traditional carols with Pachelbel's Canon and a few originals, Winston produces a solo piano album of unparalleled -- and undeniable -- beauty. How can music be simultaneously stirring and soothing, relaxed yet exalted? Millions have found the answer here, and an industry has spent more than a decade trying to duplicate it.
