I love him lots. In a normal year The Letting Go would easily have been my top album, but Dylan and Scott Walker released abnormally good records. I think The Letting Go was a major return to form for him, as he hadn't released a really convincing record since I See a Darkness. Not that what came between was bad, but I didn't think there was anything as staggeringly good as those two records. [Edited 12/15/06 16:50pm] | |

I must admit I've only got the darkness album and I find it excellant! for a while now I've been very keen on getting hold of his later stuff. I've got all of dylans records but who is scott walker? and what his good album? | |

yes, I put the name into google and through that I found out some interesting things about him. Tilt and the drift are definately on my xmas list. Could you please recommend the best walker brothers compilation? I've always liked, "the sun ain't gonna' shine anymore". I'd also like read a comparison between these two latest albums of his. I appreciate your help so far, thank you. | |

There are tons of budget-priced Walker Bros comps, though most of them are out of print now. They all do a pretty adequate job of summing up the obvious hits and throwing in a few ringers. This one looks to be about the most comprehensive. As for a comparison between Tilt and the Drift - well, writing a long treatise on his last two albums is kinda beyond the scope of my ambitions at the moment. Both albums are similar in sound – think Frank Sinatra fronting Einsterzende Neubaten if you need a quick comparison, though The Drift is the uglier, louder, longer and therefore, to my mind, better record. Get both of them though, I’d say…the Drift is basically the sequel and having both records will probably make it a little more comprehensible. | |

There's something calculating about them, they put the ice in artifice, they're sincerity with a smirk on its face, country for tofu-eating, hemp-wearing chinstrokers who wouldn't DREAM of owning a George Jones album. Now, I'm not calling YOU a tofu-eating sackcloth wearer - not in the least - but youknowworramean. New album: those backing vocals are fucking atrocious, and, for me, it's more of the same. Lord knows that hipster dweebs who hang around record shops trying to impress the clerks by loudly talking about Swell Maps reissues are the bane of my existence. No doubt they'd sneer at my Merle Haggard collection. Fuck them 'til their ass explodes, absolutely. That's the fan element dealt with. But as for the musician himself, all I can say is that I think the craft and effort is there, and that the new album holds together as a very pleasant, occasionally touching listen. I can understand why it doesn't lift your skirt though, and in the end I prefer the real thing to a hipster facsimile as well. It goes without saying that I completely respect your opinion, and if you think something I like is utter crap, then I expect you to give me both barrels.
