But was he actually talking to Moby or was he talking to someone else and aiming that "lame ass statement" Moby Thanks though Keithy! No,that statement was aimed at Moby.He looked at Moby when he said it.He was pissed when they started booing him. [This message was edited Fri Aug 30 6:46:24 PDT 2002 by DavidEye] Actually, that statement wasn't aimed at Moby, but rather, to the puppeteer guy sitting in the isle, who had just done an improv interview with Moby poking fun at Eminem's "views" about him. Afterwards tried to spice up his "fill in" time before the next presenter by running up to Eminem and trying to get a few comments about Moby (who was sitting two rows behind him), as he was in the isle. Eminem was clearly caught off guard, and warned the man several times that it wasn't his "tv time" at that moment, and that the guy should move on. That basically meant, in tele production lingo- 'you're not one of the mtv personell that has authorized 'clearance' to approach me on camera , etc., etc.," He was well within his rights as an artist to be angry about that (the riders and contractual specifications for artists appearing on these shows are followed to the "T"). However, I agree that his RESPONSE to the situation was completely juvenile. ...Ironically, during his next acceptence speech, he did say to the audience..."y'all gotta forgive me...I been goin' thru anger management class..." It was almost meant to be light-hearted, but one could see some real sadness in that whole thing. In my opinion, MTV really dropped the ball with this one. I mean, what could have been a good piece of satire, turned into some ugly thing that left Eminem looking like an asshole and Moby sqirming in his seat, because they couldn't control a loose cannon (who was one of their own!). Plus, it transpired ON THE AIR? Live and unedited in front of millions? I betcha ten bucks there were more than a few MTV producers chewing on their hand knuckles while they saw that happen on the monitors... damn its gonna be edited now! fuck i missed it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Eminem is doing what he felt that he wanted to do since his teen years, which is do hardcore rap. But, most of us have grown up, and dealt with reality. Eminem needs to take his money, quit the bullshit, and enjoy his kid and use his life productively, as should Dr. Dre. They both have extraordinary talent and should use it in a positive and creative way by influencing positivity and stopping the nonsense. That is what I learned when I was about 22 years old. Me and Marshall are the same age. He grew up at the same time I did about 150 miles north of me in Detroit. I was once a hardcore rapper too back in the day, and I observed alot of the same hardships as he did, but now, I realize that I can't do shit about the past, I can only better myself for the future. Just some advise from personal experience. I don't think any one "person" is an asshole, just the powers, principality, and spirit in a negative person is what I battle.

You are right on point. And you know what's even funnier, EM seems to only bully other white kids... he's like that one white kid in the school who wanted to earn a rep with the black kids and did it by picking on other white kids. I have yet to see him say shit about another rapper or black pop act. It's always Christina Aguilera, NSYNC, Backstreet Boys, Moby, Fred Durst, Carson Daly, Everlast... easy targets, but if you the MAN you say you are say shit about Nas, Jay Z, Camron, etc. Punkass. [This message was edited Fri Aug 30 0:37:26 PDT 2002 by NuPwrSoul] Didn't he talk shit about Will Smith??? There's a black guy for ya!!! (well kinda).

I NEVER liked him, in fact, I despised him! But I just caught the "Area 2" tour with Bowie and Moby and I was VERY surprised at how good Moby was. Now if somebody had told me this a month ago I would have laughed in their face. But he was pretty good. He played a lot of instruments and had a lot of energy. His jokes were pretty dry, but the rest was actually ok.

yeah like will smith is hardcore. As If. What we are saying is that he never talks about so called hardcore black rappers. jermaine dupri dissed the hell out of him on a record, and em never said anything about that, but he wanted to get in mobys ass all day for just speaking his mind. em needs to sit his ass down a shut the up already damn. dupri even brought up the fact that he goes after easy targets, and he still didn't say shit. That shows it me that em is nothing but a punk shooting fish in a barrel.

The best thing you can do is to tape this so called 'show' (you're right: garbage indeed), and to only watch the three moments worth the time of an intelligent viewer: 1. Beginnig of the VMAs with Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band performing 'The Rising', announced by James Gandolfini. 2. The appearance of James Brown himself during the opening (sort of) stand up comedy by Jimmy Fallon. 3. Performance by 'The Hives' somewhere during the last half hour - the best moment of the evening. The rest of this programme was utter crap, most probably the last time I will have tuned in... Greetings, Anachronist __________________________

Moby seems to think the remark was towards him. Check out his web site (http://www.moby.com/index2.html) for his remarks (8/30)-The VMAs. I'm a bigger fan of Mo than eminem but I don't see em going away too soon.

Blummin eck some of you really do see things in a different way to me! I have now watched the whole awards as I taped it the other night. The Eminem/Moby incident really wasn't that bad IMHO. He did not call Moby a girl (as Christopher wrongly stated). He was calling a girl in the audience "Moby Girl" for either heckling or booing him, maybe he assumed she was a Moby fan, maybe she wore glasses like Moby, this is speculation. Okay maybe he shouldn't have referred to Moby but I think this was pretty mild compared to what he says about Moby in "Without Me". Of course then the rest of the muppets in the pit started to boo when they saw he was getting a little p'd off. The remark about hitting someone who wears glasses could have been directed at Moby, or the girl in the audience, or the man with that silly dog puppet, it wasn't clear. He was certainly still looking at the "pit" audience when he said it.
ReeseStrongnight has probably most accurately recorded the events as I would have (although I don't know what they meant about MTV Producers regretting how things panned out). It really wasn't that controversial a moment. He still thanked his fans and MTV. Later he apologised (albeit jokingly) for his previous outburst (the anger management comment) and thanked his fans and MTV again for putting him on the map so to speak. All in all it was a pretty boring show. the funniest parts for me were Jimmy Fallon's opening and the Osbournes discussing the viewers choice award. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Umm, he WAS referring to Moby when he called him that "Moby Girl," hence the "I would hit a MAN with glasses." "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32
