It's a very disguised form of racism sad

Every magazine has it's angle, and I wouldn't expect The Raconteurs would figure very high on Vibe's lists, either. Q rates English groups higher. NME likes newer music.

s'just a stupid magazine.

I understand and agree with all that. The list was a jump off for a larger subject.

Pop music publications in the 80's and 90's seemingly paid more attention to black musicians, treating hip-hop as a novelty. Now it's vice versa. And deserving artists are getting ignored, which is curious to me since a lot of these so-called pop talents are as indistinguishable from each other as many hip-hop artists are. That's all I'm saying.

it depends on the magazine's style. If it's a magazine that supposedly gives equal press to all types of music (depending on popularity/quality) then I'd agree with you.

Well, that matters, kinda. Many of the artists I speak of, Van Hunt, Me'Shell, etc. are playing a lot of music that could be categorized as pop, rock, maybe even punk. Yet they get little if any recognition in the magazines that purport to cover those types of music. I think their skin color has much to do with that. Not that it's overt racism, but many folk look at a black artist these days and assume that they don't play more than watered down, hip-hop-laced R&B.

Prince may not have gotten a break in this environment.
