Beyonce - Irreplaceable

I always give credit where credit is due, and while I don't like Beyonce's music very much, this song is pretty damn good. She isn't oversinging (although her voice is a little shrill), there's a nice melody, love the guitars and the outro. It is too bad that the rest of the album was not nearly on the same quality level.

Who else likes this song?

I bought Dangerously In Love and liked a few of the songs at the beginning. But I mean after track 5 or so it went ridiculously downhill.

And the new one? No way.

So I think she has shown that she is a very good singles artist and I would probably buy a greatest hits if she ever released one.

Dangerously in love was a bit...big!
B'day is a bit...small and loud!

I still think B is better in the context of DC-3! Shame they ended!

Ditto Destiny's Child albums.

To be fair, I worked in at an HMV when Dangerously In Love was released and it ruined any potential unbiased enjoyment of the product.

What do u guys think of Destiny's fulfilled. IMO it's the best DC-3 album:

It has some tacky moments (Casio keyboards on Soldier!), but overall it's flow nicely

Didn't like that one.

My fav is The Writing's On The Wall. But honestly I don't find any of them essential.

I like this song...it's her catcheist in years...the guitar is VERY similar to The Cranberries 'Just My Imagination'....you can actually sing that song on top of 'Irreplacable' and it's almost identical!!!!

I can't stand it. More man-bashing and even though she's complaining about him, she obviously, from her lyrics didn't care enough about him in the first place to deem him "irreplaceable" so it sounds like she is being irresponsible by dating someone she doesn't really give a damn about.
This always happens with her. She runs out of ideas and then resorts to childish banter like some of the songs she wrote when she was in Destiny's Child. I call it the TLC Syndrome. I have little respect for people who promote this kind of division. Its that "typical bitchy black woman" stereotype. This song would have been better if performed by Sunshine Anderson. At this point in Bey's career, she needs to be writing more adult material rather than childish man-bashing. I know she's got writers but where are the good ones? The lyrics are garbage. The idea of the song is destructive since it promotes that boys vs. girls mentality and we need a lot less of that these days. At least with songs like "Me Myself & I" she had focus. this one is trash. She's always trying to write about pain, yet she's had a cushioned life. shrug

Yep.

I never listen to the record version though, all the live ones blow it out the water.

Like the song better live, but I agree that it's her most catchy.

I think B-Day is way more fun and quirky than Dangerously In Love. It's less polished, but more interesting. I like the direction she's moving in, myself. razz

I respect your point of view but your post seems way too cerebral. Its a breakup song. Thats how shes expressing herself, in a sort of female empowerment anthem for women who should be taking control of their destiny and realizing that the love of a man who thinks he's the "end all, be all" isnt worth the headache, especially when she is the sole financial contributer to the relationship. I think the song is rather cleverly crafted, both lyrically and stylistically. I agree with Voices Carry.

If she's so damn pissed, why would she want "another you in a minute"? And what kind of catch is she if "he'll be here in a minute"? Bitch had his replacement already lined up. No respect!

Thank you. Poorly written. I like Beyonce but that song is well sung sh*t.

Yeah, that's what I like about it. That's my fave part. lol He tells her she'll never find someone like him, and she's busting his bubble. She's playing hardball to not show her pain, that's how I read it. She has a couple other more heartfelt songs on her CD, but "Irreplaceable" is just a cold, kiss-off ditty. I think it works because the music seems so at odds with the lyrics.

Well, its this type of song along with trash like "Soldier" that really weaken an artist in my opinion. The "cold kiss off" sends such a negative message. Its the equivalent of "bitch songs" that rappers make. EnVogue had songs about busting men out and so on but did it with class. Beyonce & DC also write with the need to tear others down in order to bring themselves up. She's probably kicking out that "soldier" she wanted in "Irreplaceable". That crap sends a bad message regardless of how its candy-coated. I don't expect much from that airhead, though. She's not that deep.
