Stones funk ventures

Which song do you feel is the stones best attempt at incorporating funk music into their sound:

DOO DOO(HEARTBREAKER)
FINGERPRINT FILE

Any others that come to mind?

Damn near all of the Black and Blue album. "Hot Stuff", "Miss You", "Emotional Rescue" are the clear cut obvious ones.

The Stones are pure blues purists so funk is going to be in damn near everything to do. If nothing else, it's always there in their attitude and their grooves. But yeah, I ran a thread on the Black and Blue album. The Ohio Players vibe is thick on that album.

Miss You and Emotional Rescue (love Bill Wyman's bass on this cut) do it for me as far as Stones' funk goes.

The extended versions of both of these are even better. The long version of Miss You is on Rarities, Emotional Rescue is on bootleg.

Honorary mentions to:

Dance - Parts 1, 2 & 3
Everything's Turning To Gold
Too Much Blood
Terrifying
Rain Fall Down (sorta)
Harlem Shuffle (sorta)
Back To Zero

Yeah, I know. Rarities was a botched release wasn't it? Half of the stuff on there wasn't even "rare", and some oif it was "rare" as in "not well done".

You can get the full length original 12" mix of Miss You on the Don't Stop CD single. And it got its first CD release as the extra disc on "Flashpoint & Collectibles". The latter is harder to find and more expensive.

Otherwise, there are always bootlegs.

Which one? I prefer If I Was A Dancer - Dance Part 2 to the Emotional Rescue version. And the instrumental's great too. Apparently Keith wanted the instrumental version to kick off the album.

obviously Miss You & Emotional rescue, but without actually leaving rock & roll I think Can't You Hear Me Knocking & Brown Sugar are very funky.

All 3, actually, but I think I like Part 1 best--it seems a little tighter --and I love the instrumental, of course!

Some of the Keef solo stuff, if not outright funky, grooves pretty hard thanks to Steve Jordan and Charley Drayton.

Especially the live versions off the X-pensive Winos tour.

Don't forget that Maceo Parker, Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell where all on the studio version of 'Big Enough' and Worrell contributed to several other tracks on 'Talk Is Cheap'.
