Well this is the normal after thanksgiving week, where u see the sudden surge by CD's that were offered in some sort of after-thanksgiving sale promo event, and the usual rise of the more "Shopper" friendly items, Ill Divo,Bennet,Manilow etc. I think what the industry should be worried about is the fact that there is no album with "legs" this christmas, the Jay Z is already being called a disappointment by him and the label, im guessing for at least a 50-70% drop. The thing the industry should realize is there is going to be a BIG lull this week with numbers falling off after initial "shopping" numbers. The thing is had this not been thanksgiving week, i think the Jay Z album comes in at about 400 thousand. Also the fact that there is no "artist" out there right now with a consistent seller, there isnt that "Mimi" type album out there, whether u liked it or not it was a steady seller through the year and big at xmas, right now there isnt anything like that for labels, and High School Musical aint cutting it, if thats what the industry is hanging their hat on, its time to close up shop "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

A 40 percent drop after selling 700, 000 the first week is expected in this curent music climate...There's no one over at Def Jam or at music industry outlets saying that Jay Z's new joint is a dissapointment sales wise....Musically, it's a different story...Hardcore fans have been in the middle of the road on this one...But commercially it's doing beyond what most albums have done this year in terms of first week sales...

Actually Def Jam was already saying this, actually 2 days after the release when a "lawsuit" was filed against myspace claiming it leaked the CD, a spokesperson at Def Jam did say "Even if this sells a Million first week its a disappointment" this was to basically give them foundation for the lawsuit saying that Myspace cut into their sales. 10 2PAC AMARU/INTERSCOPE 164,052 --
PAC'S LIFE Tupac has been dead for ten years now and he is still charting respectfully. 164,000 copies is not bad. It shows that he is still relevent. In many ways more relevent than most of today's artists in the hip hop genre, or any genre for that matter.

Jay's album is great..you can only respect what the guy has accomplished in today's climate...he pushed the envelope a little bit and I think he scored well..I can not think of an album that has done better this year first week out..he'll be platninum by next weeks end and maybe back at #1 1 over Jordan...the greatest since

jays albums was being hyped to be first week million seller then they scaled it back to 850k but i predicted last week it will do around 700k and was i so rite!!
most of the industry was like 850k but i knew it cant be so big this yrs thanks givin numbers r better then last y r this yr there were 19 100k+ albums last yr only 17 but overall this yr has been dismal best sellin album HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL targeted towards preteens with mere 3.3m and the most susccessful mainstream album is sellin like 2.2million which is incredibly horrible!! in the 90s most yrs the best sellin album would top out at 10million
