::: BEST OF '06

Ok, the end of the year is coming soon and, I'll be real with it, Nelly Furtado's "Loose" was simply one of the best dance pop albums of this year. That album killed and RE-KILLED.

My question to the org is this: Given the quality of the album and the time we've now had to digest each of its tunes, which would you say is the out-and-out jam of "Loose"? Which track made you nod your head, dance you face off, sing along, etc. and WHY?

Personally, I have to say "Do It" because I was rocking that song ever since I took the wrapping off of the CD. The synths and the way it grooves is just crazy. BUT, when I listen to the whole CD, I must say, I'm kinda torn now because I'm starting to really get into "Wait For You." The way that shit grooves, it's just like WHOAAA. And I love the change-up. "Showtime," just came up on my player and that's jamming, too. Wow. This is a hard question!

I love the interlude segment just before "Wait For You" where Nelly and Timbaland are in the studio conversing about the track and their ideas for the melody. That entire interlude was indicative of the feel of this whole project. It was more than just an album. It was a project that was organic. Both Nelly F and Timbaland were in the studio truly building and molding their talents and thoughts on wax. I Feel that on the beats and lyrics of this record. There's a synergy that just coarses throughout the whole record. I love the energy. Just hearing the interludes is like having a sneak peek in the minds of two truly creative people in a ZONE. I love it. Love it.

And "Maneater" is CRAZINESS. It's really hard to me to choose just one jam.

Im still middle of the road on this album, plus im not crazy about the way the label supported it by making her push NO HAY only in the latin market when clearly it could have gotten more respect universally, i feel that she didnt stick up for that, especially since she was coming off a number 1 single. For me i just couldnt totally get into the album, i also think the release of the Justin record took alot of air out of this project, and it just seemed like Timbaland was everywhere and alot of his beats were recycled. So i dont dislike the record, i like her work with Calle 13 and Juanes, but i cant give it "best of 2006" type praise, though im sure she will pick up some of those honors just mainly based on what was out this year.

I tend to think that with someone else singing this, I would have enjoyed it a hell of a lot more. There are some good tracks here (and some mediocre), but the bottom line is this woman has what Moonbeam called nasal chords, and they grate on my damn nerves.

i saw her live at a festival in the netherlands early june and she was
one of the acts that didn´t really fit in with the rest of the bill so
people´s expectations were low and reserved since she was not the kind
of artist they normally listen to.

but man, when she came on and sang she was winning people over left,
right and center. she and her band did a great show and the live stuff
from the new album was just incredible!

then her album was released a little later and i´ve enjoyed it many a
time since.

my fav song is probably not a real `jam` as such, it´s more laid back
and dreamy, but i´d say that Say It Right is my fav track on there!!!

such a cool song.

Say It Right is a great track. But I think they made a mistake towards the end. You have the final verse and then it just sort of trails off in a limp finish....What is up with that?

I enjoyed the album so much during that time it was released, however, the only track i ended up playing later on is All Good Things Come 2 An End.

That track is flawless

So nice, had to buy it twice.

This album makes my top ten of 2006. I didn't think "Promiscuous Girl" was all that great when I first heard it, but after hearing it a million times, it won me over. Just the familiarity of it makes it my favorite--which is not the best reason to like a song I admit, but it worked hard to make me like it so I have to respect it for its effort.

"Say It Right" has always been one of my standouts from the album. But "Wait For You" has grown on me considerably in the last few weeks.

I say "JAMS" () because every time I turned on the album it turned into a big clap session at my place. LOL.

I bought the CD the day it came out, but I remember being pissed off a day or two afterwards since I found TARGET was selling a Limited Edition version with a bonus DVD for $4 dollars less!

The vinyl looks hot! Is it a double LP?

I tend to feel that song more when I'm out dancing than @ home. "Do It" and "Showtime" got more iPod/iTunes play.

I'm surprised I didn't hear "Maneater" more when I was going out this year. But I did feel vindicated when Soulwax interpolated the song in their set during their concert. I was acting a certified fool. haha.

I think her peformance of Say it Right on the AMA was the highlight of the show even the guitar was pedestrian and that weird reggea dude was strange, but the girl is a star. She glows. i saw her live, cuz she toured with prince during the Canadien leg of the Musicology tour but noone was really into it...(I guess its hard to open for the man)

I don't know all the details, but he had 2 sold out shows at the ACC, and Nelly Furtado opened for him. It was summer 2004. I went to the second show and it was awesome thats all i can remember about it unfortunatly...


Oh and I think some impatient P fans were booing poor Miss Furtado.

I remember when she was touring with P, the org didn't make a big deal about it. Not in the Non-Prince: Music section. But I've never been a Prince: Music and More regular, so I have no clue if they mentioned her in there.

I saw it on iTunes back in Spring, it read "No Hay Iqual (produced by The Neptunes)." I guess that was it. I know on the album version it's produced by Tim Mosley. So, I guess Mosley Music wasn't haven't too much promotion of that song on their clock.
