Shawn Lane - 1979 - 16 years old I thought the same thing that one of the commenters on youtube posted. I thought this type of rock guitar/shred alternate picking was started by Yngwie... I got a lot to learn.

It's great to see the progress Shawn made from having the facility for endless notes that didn't say much (after all he was only 16) to the mature thoughtful and inventive lines/phrases showcased here...

He was such a gifted musician in general - a multi-instrumentalist and a pure lover of music. My fave Shawn Lane story is how he embarrassed Ted Nugent onstage when "The Nuge" tried to go head to head with Mr. Lane. I still go when I think of that scenario. Would've loved to have been there to see Ted Nugent speechless... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

Yes - Yngwie was IMO a much better guitarplayer before he got to USA and got poisened by fame, drugs and accidents like nervedamages in his picking hand (1987), tendonitis and a broken left hand. The oldest clips I could find on youtube are from 1981. Here you go: http://www.youtube.com/wa...ed&search= Proof he was better in the old days, this is from 1984 with Alcatrazz before he went solo: http://www.youtube.com/wa...VC6_OQQ02Q [Edited 11/25/06 5:33am]
