oh, and did i say, i really like her VOICE? i think it's perfect for the type of songs she's doing on Ys.

it's naive. that's the word for it. it offsets the sophistication of the harp.

hmm tho, "cosmia" might be my favorite. it's the most bjorkish of all the tracks, and it has that crazy broadwayish quality about it that bjork brings to her stuff.

it's a BIG song, know what i mean?

In that photo she looks more like the Tori Amos of the washboard.

i hope you're not expressing some sort of ignorant prejudice against folk music and country people... well, can't expect everyone to understand. shrug but i like authenticity.

I'm not expressing prejudice against anyone...it was a JOKE...I actually found that "lezzer" comment to be more of an "ignorant prejudice"...

I got the album yesterday, but haven't listened to it yet. It's strange to see Steve Albini's name attached to a recording like this.

Okay, I just listened to the 'Ys' album for the first time.

I might have to make an addition to my top 10 album list of 2006. It was already perfect as it was. Damn. disbelief

or you could just make a new list, like top 10 albums of the 2000s, or of the last century, and put it on there. cool

Heh heh, let's not get carried away now. I have to listen to it a few more times just to make sure that initial appeal wasn't a fluke. 2006 isn't over yet so I can change my top 10 list. smile

There's lots of live stuff clips floating around on youtube & the like... including performances of Cosmia, which is from "Ys."

Happy listening!

I listened to 'Ys' again today. It definitely wasn't a fluke the first time. It's really, really good. It's like Kate Bush and Björk went to the Renaissance Faire and recorded an album afterward about their experience.

I kinda like it. I think she's a better lyricist than either Kate or Bjork...she gets that it's all sort of silly and overplays that, so the indulgences are more bearable

That is funny--almost every other review raves about the album and RS which usually loves every piece of crap released says it sucks. lol
