Joanna Newsome Any fans here? I think she's amazing... I don't own her albums yet, but hope to soon...
A reviewer in Slate called her "anachronistic," which is what I hope to be as a musician. A folkie harpist! Wow... People complain about her high, squeaky voice but it reminds me of some of the unschooled mountain folks, high & lonesome... Thoughts?

I'm pretty tolerant of odd voices, but hers is extremely odd.

I'd rather gouge my eyes out than listen to her fucking voice. A load of shit.
Sorry for sitting on the fence for this one.

"Anachronistic" is a euphemism for "shit", by the way.

I've read really good reviews about her latest album 'Ys'. I've heard one song and I agree her voice takes awhile to get used to. Her music sounds very Renaissance Faire-y.

A Friend and I came up with Hillbilly Bjork.
But for some reason I'm oddly fascinated by the Ys cd. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.
