FIONA APPLE Anyone else fans of fiona apple? I am absolutely in love with her music. She is a big inspiration to me musicaly. Let's go down 2 the holy river,
If we drown then we'll be delivered. If we don't then we'll never see the light. If U die before U try, U'll have 2 come back and face the light. When U believe it, U got a good reason 2 cry. www.myspace.com/xxchina

"I didn't prepare a speech and I'm sorry, but I'm glad that I didn't, because I'm not going to do this like everybody else does it. You see, Maya Angelou said that we, we as human beings at our best can only create opportunities and I'm going to use this opportunity the way that I wanna use it. So what I wanna say is, everybody out there that's watching, everybody that's watching this world, this world is bullshit and you shouldn't model your life - wait a second! - You shouldn't model your life about what you think we think is cool and what we're wearing and what we're saying and everything. Go with yourself. And it's just stupid that I'm in this world, but you're all very cool to me." F. Apple

She's a genius, and her work with Jon Brion was some of the most potent mastery to be released in our time.
At the risk of hyperbole (oops! Too late!) I'd put her as one of the most important, most original artists to surface in recent years. Can't think of many other artists who today could get people petitioning her label (albeit wrongly) to release a shelved project. Her voice is an important one.

Completely. I was kind of on the fence with her until that album. I definitely prefer the unreleased one, though.

I love me some Fiona. Listening 2 her growth from 'Tidal' through 'Extraordinary Machine' is amazing. I also think that history will look back on 'When the Pawn' as a masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, she's a couple pickles short of a Whopper and redefines the term 'frightening' on a live stage, but I could not deny her talent. She is a BRILLIANT lyricist. Listen to me on The House of Pop Culture podcast on itunes http://itunes.apple.com/u...d438631917

You got that right! Did you cath the Elvis Costello concert that VH1 aired a few months ago? She did a duet with E. Costello and looked really really ...how do you say...possesed and evil the whole time. The song kicked ass, but she looked like an extra from Girl Interupted or something. boldedit [Edited 11/21/06 8:24am] A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

"When the Pawn" is my favorite...and her voice is extraordinary...her lyrics are honest and cutting...
I let the beast in too soon, i don't know how to live Without my hand on his throat; i fight him always & still O darling, it's so sweet, you think you know how crazy -how crazy i am You say you don't spook easy, you won't go, but i know And i pray that you will -fast as you can, baby run-free yourself of me Fast as you can I may be soft in your palm but i'll soon grow Hungry for a fight, and i will not let you win My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will Disprove your faith in man So if you catch me trying to find my way into your Heart from under your skin -fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself Fast as you can Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself Fast as you can Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift But most of the time, it does And i get to the place where i'm begging for a lift Or i'll drown in the wonders and the was And i'll be your girl, if you say it's a gift And you give me some more of your drugs Yeah, i'll be your pet, if you just tell me it's a gift Cuz i'm tired of whys, choking on whys, Just need a little because, because I let the beast in and then; I even tried forgiving him, but it's too soon So i'll fight again, again, again, again, again. And for a little while more, i'll soar the Uneven wind, complain and blame The sterile land But if you're getting any bright ideas, quiet dear I'm blooming within Fast as you can, baby wait watch me, i'll be out Fast as i can, maybe late but at least about Fast as you can leave me, let this thing Run its route Fast as you can (repeat 4 times) but, she ain't no Kate Bush...

I am a huge Fiona Apple fan. Musically, she's been very influential to me. Her music is highly original and her voice is incredibly soulful. I've performed "Never Is A Promise" live a few times. (It's my favorite song from her.)
She's shown a tremendous amount of artistic growth in her work up until now. She still utilizes all her strengths but has not been afraid to take risks and boldy go into different musical territory. I thought it was wise of her to go with Mike Elizondo on Extraordinary Machine. Don't get me wrong. I love her work with Jon Brion, but it was a necessary step towards establishing her own artistic autonomy. In any case, yes, Fiona Rocks!! I agree completely with Threadbare. I think many years from now, in the grand scheme of things, she will be one of the ones who really mattered.

LOVE Fiona...her voice is so distinctive, but it's her lyrics that sealed the deal for me. The Iconoclasts ep that aired last week with her and Quentin Tarantino on Sundance was good viewing.

I LOVE FIONA!!!!!
She's the shit. "Tidal" made me a fan; "When the Pawn" made me a loyalist, I will buy anything and everything she puts out. BUT... "Extraordinary Machine" was a letdown. I can see why she didn't really want to release it in the first place. Save for "Get Him Back," "O Sailor," and "Tymps"...it really wasn't a great record at all. IMHO as always. But a bad Fiona record is like a bad orgasm. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Stopping with the Tori/Kate stuff...
Lyrically Fiona is a genius. When the pawn...is a marvellous record.

despite what I feel was a production disaster (Extraordinary Machine), Fiona is probably the greatest thing I've heard in the last 10 years. Tidal is still on constant repeat in my player - 'Pale September' really moves me
I love the Jon Brion work but I feel her first producer, Andy Slater, is very overlooked. Between them she had two mind-blowing records. The last guy...not so much
