She needs better songwriters. She can effortlessly belt out any song thrown her way, but she keeps returning to these generic run of the mill songs aimed at the highschool crowd, with simple minded lyrics and boring melodies.
She sounded more mature when she was in her early 20s than she does now in her late 30s. | |

I personally think she's very hot.   However, since she left Tommy Mottola, she has exhibited some really bad fashion sense, and she also dresses inappropriately for her age and body type. She can still dress very sexy and be appropriate for her age; just look to Demi Moore, Terri Hatcher, and Vanessa Williams as examples. All of these women are in their 40's or are pushing 40, yet they still dress fine for their age.

Mariah being average in the face is what I think fuels her to overdo the sex kitten thing. I remember hearing an interview with her where she said she used to hang with this beautiful blonde who got all the attention between the two of them. She always wanted that attention. Well, now that she has money it seems she's forever chasing that image. Her hair looks so much better darker, though...
As far as the fake breasts go, I just hate that she lies about them. She flaunts them and flaunts them and then pretends they are hers. But that's her choice, I guess. And seriously, what has happened to her middle register? Her voice seems really spotty lately. It's a better than it was on "Charmbracelet" but her live appearances always seem shaky...like the background singers have to take over certain parts. Her albums of the early 90's showed more craft and maturity than anything she's released lately. Maybe its because her career was being shaped in a certain direction, it was inevitable that given the chance she would rebel against it, but shit its been near 10 years of rebellion now, and she's still in regression. She's gone from looking classy beyond her years, to some kind of desperate plastic reject from the playboy mansion. Regarding the whole fat issue, Mariah is certainly not on the skinny side of things, but surely that makes her a decent role model, and some kind of antithesis to these uber skinny celebs we keep seeing. She just needs to realise that flashing her tits and ass at every given opportunity becomes tiresome. Hell even madonna figured that one out and she went the whole hog and got it all out. | |

I do have to give Mariah credit for two songs off of that Charmbracelet CD that I think showed interesting songwriting. The Eminem-inspired "Clown" has some outstanding vocal arrangements, I think. And the song dedicated to the passing of her father, "Flowers For Elfred" is really beautiful to me, with the image of a sunflowers and all. To my ears, these are two of the more mature tracks that she's done and I still listen to them both (I just wished her voice wasn't so darm whispery during the time). | |
