Aaaah shit,...PLEASE don't get me started on this. Bootsy took funk to a whole new level. He elevated the bass and much like Jimi, gave the instrument a voice. He took the bass and put it in the spotlight. Always high in the mix, it was his centerpiece. He also used guitar effects, again like Hendrix, that totally personalized his sound. What Jimi did with the wah wah, Bootsy did with the Mutron envelope filter. Had cats like Rick James coping to it bigtime on cuts like "Bustin Out". That sound on the bass on Bustin Out never would have happened if it wasn't for Bootsy. Was Bootsy the first to use effects on bass? Of course not. Larry was working it before then. But, just like Clapton and Zappa was before Jimi with the wah, Jimi took it somewhere that neither of those cats could ever imagine. Same with Collins. Very very very very funky. It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

 I'm not convinced by the video...but to give Bootsy his props during his funk years with JB...I have the Funkydrummer video that has longtime JB funk drummer (John "Jabo" Starks) as saying that he's played with alot of good bass players,...but he never played with anyone that could play the bass like Bootsy! He brought a new way of playing to the band!Intelligent people talk about ideas. -->Average people talk about things. --> Small people talk about other people. | |
