Thanks for the link, looks like a great site.

biggrin Thanks. Yeah, I keep that site in my favorites pages because it's good for reference sometimes as well. nod

smile

I've got to sit down sometime I've got a spare few hours just to pore over that. I can't believe I'd never found that one before myself.

Done and seen. The movie's got it's flaws, but I'd count it easily as one of my faves. nod

Though I don't buy Bowie's line about not liking it because he doesn't feel it's accurate or whichever. Of course it's not going to be accurate! It wasn't supposed to be. It's a fictionalized, slightly fan-fiction-y, mashup of the most well-known bits of Glam history, Oscar Wilde, and Sci Fi. I think the real reason DB doesn't like it is cuz it makes him look like a selfish prick. hmph! razz

U know a major oversight in the film was there wasn't a dominant role portraying Bolan. I mean come on, how on earth are u going to even attempt to make a film about glam and not have Marc in the center of it? Really, they could have left Iggy out. I know Bowie was head over heels to work with Pop but, there was waaay more competittion between Bolan and Bowie. Iggy was never really a "glam" artist anyway. He was proto-punk all the way.

Yeah, it was pretty odd they left out Bolan. My only guess is that they sliced up his character and added bits and pieces of Marc into the others. After all, there was that bit about Slade playing on the music show (Top of the Pops) wearing glitter.....

Iggy wasn't really glam at all, it's true. But that where the fanfic influences come in. The whole movie plays like a really well done slash fanfic featuring Bowie/Pop. And considering a lot of people once thought the two were a lot more than just good friends, it's sort of fitting anyways. And the relationship aspect makes me think the producers threw a bit of Jagger into Curt Wilde too, just for fun. razz

that's why they are not called iggy pop and david bowie. it's not a bio, it's a kind of drug fuelled imiginative take on it, not a biopic by any measure

Yeah, I know that. The characters didn't have to be called Iggy and David. It was obvious who was playing who. Again, after a second viewing, I thought it was much better. The visual element was dead on. Especially the opening sequence. The visual and the soundtrack MADE that movie. But that's the true essence of glam anyway, right? The music, attitude and the boa.

yea, the first time is so bizarre and hard to follow that it's off-putting. the second time it starts to make a lot more sense and becomes much better. donnie darko is like that too.

nod The first time I saw VG I was confused, but fascinated. It was a few years ago on Showcase, back when they played indie and foreign films instead of non-stop CSI. Those were the days. sigh

So I went out and rented it, and over a weekend I must've watched it 6 or 7 times. I fell in love. Soon after, I shelled out the money for my very own copy of glitter eye candy. I introduced my friends to it, and now most of them have gone through the same process of watching it and buying their own copy and subsequently learning to give Glam the love it doesn't get enough of from my generation. martha voiceAnd that's a good thing.
