Album of the Month: David Bowie - Scary Monsters & Super Creeps After years and years of neverending listenings I'm still in love with this 1980 classic and I keep playing the hell out of it - especially this time of year. Though Bowie released some great "post-monsters" albums (like "Outside", "Earthling" and "Heathen"), I think this one is his last groundbreaking record. I love the huge drums, the crazy guitar solos, the atmospheric synths and David's extraordinary vocals. Amazing on the same level from start to finish. My favourite pieces are: Teenage Wildlife It's No Game (Part 1) Ashes To Ashes Up The Hill Backwards How do you feel about it???

Even though I love albums like 'Let's Dance', 'Heathen', and 'Outside', I think that this was Bowie's last truly perfect album. I think it really encapsulates Bowie's '70s work and moves him forward at the same time. It really could've set him up well for the '80s if he hadn't decided to go in such a different direction. Due to the little pictures from 'Low', 'Heroes', and 'Lodger' on the back, I can't help but feel that this album was still meant to be part of the series.
My favs on the album are: It's No Game (Part 1) Scary Monster (and Super Creeps) Ashes to Ashes Fashion Teenage Wildlife Because You're Young SHUT UP! SHUT UP! I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Yes, I feel the same. The album has a "Berlin" vibe. My favs on the album are:

I'm listening to the album right now, almost forgot what am amazing album it is. I love how harsh everything sounds; the guitar work here is really blistering.

Not really a weak song on there, IMO. F*cking perfect record and so unique. His vocals tear down walls on this one. [Edited 11/4/06 8:22am]

An unqualified masterpiece. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Wasn't Teenage Wildlife written by Tom Verlaine (Television)? Too lazy to look it up now.
Anyway, I never really got into that record as much as into Station To Station or Low; but I do like the title song, I do like Ashes...

WONDEROUS CHOICE for album of the month Such a classic!!!
One of the undervalued songs on that album is "Screams like a Baby"... that's always been one of my favorite Bowie songs. That album has such a unique feel to it... really different than anything else.

I'm going to put this album now just because of this thread! This is my absolute favorite Bowie album- it is so raw and chronicles his self-exorcism so well. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

this album is half & half for me.
i really like the 3 main singles, plus It's No Game (part 2, NOT part 1) and a couple of others, but the rest of it either leaves me cold or i dislike. "The world of the heterosexual is a sick and boring life. " -- Edith Massey in Female Trouble

Quite possibly my favourite Bowie album!
Love the production, the guitar work, the bass... Lyrically he was in great form too - I've always had a thing for the opening lines of Up The Hill Backwards: "The vacuum created by the arrival of freedom, And the possibilities it seems to offer" Great stuff. Off to give it a spin now!

Off to give it a spin now! Documentaries on refugees Couples 'gainst the target Throw the rock upon the road and It breaks into pieces Draw the blinds on yesterday And it's all so much scarier Put a bullet in my brain And it makes all the papers So where's the moral People have their fingers broken To be insulted by these fascists - it's so degrading It's no game There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
