Wolfmother...

I've just discovered Wolfmother. I don't know how many of you have heard of them but they fucking ROCK! They are a straight up old fashioned rock band that sound like they have just stepped into 2006 from the 1970's.

Some are saying they could save Rock and Roll...

Pub band...

Apparently they just swept the ARIA's (Oz Recording Industry Awards), between them and Jet they are sure to, if anything further drive the knife into the bloated festering corpse of Rock. The only way to save Rock is to come up with something new not simply rewrite it. These guys aren't shit, they just aren't great therefore their only appeal is that they're 'retro'. If you dig these guys just go to the source, it's much better even though Woldmother have had 30 years to improve on the formula.

Thats pretty harsh. I mean people are always saying that music aint what it used to be. So when a band goes back in time for influence and they make some great music, that can't be applauded? Especially when its good?

I adore Wolfmother.

They have a sort of Zeppelin-esque sound (and I know I'm going to get attacked for saying that) razz

I love Wolfmother. nod They are one of the few "retro" hard rock bands that don't annoy me. They rock horns and I've done a Wolfmother thread on here a while back, although it sunk pretty fast. lol

I hear a bit of Zeppelin in them, but I'd say more Sabbath, Cream, and Rush to be honest. I've yet to see them live, but almost all the Zeppelin fans (who are also into most other classic rock bands as well) I've spoken with about them who HAVE seen them live say they are not to be missed. They seem to get respect from die-hard classic and heavy rock fans, that other bands these days don't get. hmmm

I have seen some live footage of them though on YouTube or something, and they sounded ok. Not as great as I was hoping, but pretty powerful coming from a trio. They have awesome poster designs as well, and I'm hoping they'll hire me soon to do their advertising. lol razz

I respect them. And I can't remember the last time a new act has earned my respect...

That's the thing though I don't think their stuff is great, it's okay. That guy's voice is really annoying and their tunes are pretty generic. I just think if you like them then zep, purple etc is what you'd rather listen to.

Okay I can accept that. I can see how one could argue that they aren't exactly pushing music forward, but I have to say I love the guys voice!

If your referring to the singer, yea I love his voice. As someone mentioned it reminds me of Rush a little...

I like this band but only in small doses. They sound like a few of 70's bands but I don't hear Zeppelin except maybe the mythological lyrics. I hear Sabbath, Blue Cheer (Big Time), Jethro Tull, White Stripes and a few others.

I can understand why people think they suck because they still seem to be looking for their own sound.

biggrin I thought about Jethro Tull as well. The flute on some songs. nod

And I agree about the Zeppelinesque lyrics too.

They're ok. I really like "Woman" "Minds Eye" and "Joker and the Theif" Overall, they remind me of The Cult. A lot.

I've never orgnoted you.

And I could care less about what you think of my musical taste. lol Go bother someone else with your constant negativity. You are like an annoying sandfly or something.

Oh, but I'm still waiting for your stellar contribution to the music scene though. Keep us posted. thumbs up!

I just realized there were youtube videos, lol

The lead singer/guitarist looks the the caveman from those Gieco ads.

How could I forget who they are really sounding like here, Deep Purple (keyboard player's rocking back and forth in the live footage, I mean c'mon) and Rush (I love the band so that's how I see it so clear).

While citing these influences, it's still impressive for the lead guitar player to be the singer. That's really hard to do (I'm speaking from experience.) and at least it's kind of a compliment to these bands because at least we recognize them.

I mentioned Rush as well in my earlier post up there. nod

I just found out though that I'm going to be seeing them live in either Cologne or Paris in about two weeks! excited In a small-ish venue as well. woot! I'm very curious.
