You heard what I had to say. I love her music, but I hate her attitude. That's all there is to it. There's no deeper psyhoanalysis on it to be done. "The world of the heterosexual is a sick and boring life. " -- Edith Massey in Female Trouble

Whatever floats your boat an example? it's been years since i read an interview with her for exactly the reason i stated originally, because i don't like her attitude. if you want examples, you'll have to go read them yourself. i purposely stay away from them. but one example is complaining in a couple of them that she doesn't get they hype or exposure of big name pop stars when she doesn't make the kind of music that's going to bring her that kind of attention and says she doesn't want to make that kind of music. frankly, with her niche image and style of music, i think she's extremely fortunate to have a record deal and has (for the most part) been able to make the kind of music she wants to. she was given a shot and she succeded critically and to some extent commercially. but i don't want to hear how unfair it is that she doesn't sell Britney numbers or get that kind of press when she's not that kind of artist and doesn't want to be that kind of artist if you want other examples, you'll have to go read/find the interviews yourself. it shouldn't be hard, there's really only one site on the internet to do it, run by maui/seattle matthew, a.k.a. "suomynona" but really, that's all i have to say about it. there's nothing further to discuss. it's not going to enrich your life to point out to me that i should like her attitude when i don't. i already love her music. shouldn't that be enough? as i said, i have a problem with lots of artists that i like. Me'shell, Prince, Madonna, Janet, Rufus Wainwright, Mercury Rev. name any artist that i like and i can tell you an issue that bugs me or turns me off. Thank you for giving me something to chew on Actually I completely agree with you that it's very ridiculous of her to complain that she aint sellin like the fake glitter girl pop stars because in order to do that she'd have to make that kind of music and as an artist she just isn't willing to compromise. So yes, it's pointless to complain about that. I would have thought her "attitude" problem was much bigger than that though I was expecting much more eggregious examples than her unhappiness at not being recognized on a mass scale So I haven't really read a lot of her interviews but it's probaby safe to say that I won't think most of them in the same way you do. Thanks for at least giving an explanation. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

a friend of mine recently commented that Meshell is like Miles right now, and I know what he means! There are so many artists, in Jazz, R&B, Rock, etc-that want to collaborate with her, and at the same time, she's not standing still, always moving forward. I was just diggin' the EP last week, and as always, I'm always impressed with her scope, from the blazing "Sloganeer" to the reflective "Shirk", featuring Pat Metheny... ...
