As the question is ego driven as opposed to just having an ego I'd really say Prince . The proof is in many quotes hes given , etc " my only competition is me in the past " , " Listen , I think I'm great , ok " as well as comments hes made on being better than other artists . Sure theres lots of stars like J - Lo who might act like total divas and make unreasonable demands but I don't know if all of them have made claim to being the best around . Maybe legends like Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis were similar to Prince in that respect , but theyre dead and thus not still "in the business" per se , so if we're asking which performer still alive is motivated most by thinking he's the best around , certainly Prince is high up in the list , and for a long long time , IMHO , he was the best around .
