N.W.A. appreciation thread! I haven't listened to N.W.A. in a long ass time. I was looking through my record crates and found Straight Outta Compton and put it on. This is one of the most sinister, funny, groundbreaking, classic Hip Hop albums ever. 100 Miles an runnin, it don't matter just don't bite it, straight outta compton This is some tight shit! I agree. The album is funny as hell. It's more that than anything. Never would have known that Cube and Dre would have done what they went on to do. This was pretty much Eazy's thang. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

The music NWA specialize in was Reality Rap. But after the release of Gangsta, Gangsta (the second single) the public and/or the media ended up calling it Gangsta Rap. | |

Boys-N-the-Hood, 8-Ball, Dope Man, Fat Girl, The Fila Fresh Crews Tuffest Man Alive & something from Bobby Jimmy. I played Boys-N-The-Hood, Dope Man, 8-Ball, and The Fila Fresh Crews Tuffest Man Alive. I immediately called my road dog, and said get over here and check out this new shit from a group called N.W.A, I just got. Man I can say, both our jaws dropped. Hearing bruthas expressing themselves on wax like that. A local radio jock at the time here in Dallas "Dr Rock" from CA. was a member of the rap group known as the Fila Fresh Crew, which one of the rappers was The D.O.C. from Dallas.National Funk League✮✮ | |

I remember folks in L.A. used to get their cassingles and cassette albums from the swap meets around the city. Most notably the SLAUSON SWAPMEET, the ones along Vermont and on the east side. I didn't shop in Compton, but OF COURSE, they were sold there. A lot of these places burned down after the '92 Riots, though, and never returned.
But NWA takes me back to a time when swap meets were a big thing in black Los Angeles in the late '80s. Back when the original KDAY was on the air. Eazy E :: Eazy Duz It blasting out of my mom's Plymouth Voyager. A MESS. haha. | |
