Suby,

if u like more commercial music I suggest u get the following Bowie albums:

maybe start with the greatest hits??
Let's dance
dare i say... never let me down

For the real Bowie I suggest:

Ziggy Stardust - Masterpiece, Glam rock
Low - Bowie's berlin period started with this beautiful lp.
Station to Station - cold, calculated but perfect music.
1.Outside - Bowie experimental 90's output in full effect.
Heathen - the new cd,is Bowie back in superb form.

As for Beck I suggest:

Odelay - the one that put him on the map.
Midnight vultures - if u like prince u like tis cd smile

I'd have to second starbuck's opinions here. Ziggy is a great place to start cuz it'll show you what all the fuss is about. All the other albums she named are worthy additions but perhaps a bit too specific for a first purchase. If you want a career overview that will give you an idea of what the man is about, may I suggest Best Of 1969-1974 and 1974-1979. His new album "Heathen" is a masterpiece as well. It might be cool to start with this one and work your way backwards. Good luck with your bowie quest. You're in for one hellova ride!

you might want to wait on getting the 69-74 and 74-79 Bowie discs. they've become rather hard to find. at least in record stores. you can come across them quite easily online, though. FABULOUS collections, for the most part. anyway, about the waiting... Virgin is putting out both single and double disc versions of a "Best of Bowie" that covers 1969-2002. It may be a better place for the newbie to start, as it'll have a higher percentage of "hits" that you'll recognize up through the 90's.
