I like Heart, but do they qualify as metal? hmmm

They fall into the "soft rock" category I think.....But they are still cool razz

Not with songs like Barracuda and Magic Man they don't. guitar

And "Little Queen" is so funky. nod

I love Heart. love Well, 70's Heart to be more specific.

I hired someone to catalogue my music collection and organize everything. The strange thing is that women artist only make up about 5% of my music collection. I NEVER really noticed that until now. I'm talking about 1000's of cd's and albums.

I wonder why that is? I guess women don't make good music. At least where my taste is concerned. Any thoughts?

Tsk, tsk, MG. I'm sooo disapointed in you. mad
Just out of curiosity who is your favorite female singer or musician?

Good question. I'll have 2 think about that one.

Same here, the biggest part of my music is male. I can identify more with men because I am one, I guess. I love Erykah Badu, Sade, Leela James, Bjork and Sabrina Malheiros though.

There are a lot of women playing rock currently. It's just that radio and video don't pay any attention to them beyond Evanescence and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

What kind of rock are you looking for? Alternative, punk, metal, folk? I'll give you some names.

really, any kind! I love music suggestions and (trying not to seem like a crazy stalker) you've got good taste.
Your avatar is the reason I started hunting for Siouxsie & the Banshees' albums lol

I went through my CD collection and came up with these current female artists/female fronted bands that could be played on rock/modern rock stations, but aren't. You can click on their myspace pages and listen to samples. Some are obvious choices, others aren't.

Adult. (electro-punk)
Tori Amos (alternative, piano)
Fiona Apple (alternative, piano)
Aterciopelados (Latin-alternative)
AIDS Wolf (experimental, noise)
The Bellrays (garage, soul)
Bif Naked (hard rock)
Björk (electronica)
Camera Obscura (indie-pop)
Neko Case (alt-country, Americana)
Cat Power (indie, folk)
Collide (gothic, industrial)
Cranes (alternative, ethereal, electronic)
Damone (metal, punk)
The Donnas (hard rock, punk)
The Epoxies (new wave, punk)
Erase Errata (indie, no wave, postpunk)
Faith And The Muse (gothic)
Feist (alternative, indie, folk)
Giant Drag (indie, alternative)
Goldfrapp (electronica, new wave)
Gore Gore Girls (garage)
PJ Harvey (alternative, indie)
Horrorpops (psychobilly, punk)
Icaro Azul (Latin-alternative, indie)
Jucifer (art-metal, experimental)
Kittie (metal)
Lacuna Coil (metal)
Ladytron (electro, indie)
Le Tigre (electro-punk, indie)
The Like (alternative, indie)
Lullacry (metal)
Made In Mexico (experimental, noise)
Nellie McKay (alternative, piano, jazz, pop)
Metric (new wave, punk, indie)
Juana Molina (electronic, folk)
Morningwood (alternative, new wave, hard rock)
My Ruin (metal)
Peaches (electro, indie)
The Pipettes (garage, '60s, pop)
Pretty Girls Make Graves (indie, no wave)
Rasputina (cello, avant-garde)
The Raveonettes (alternative)
Sahara Hotnights (garage)
Scarling. (indie, alternative, hard rock)
Sing-Sing (alternative, indie, electronic)
The Sounds (new wave, punk)
Regina Spektor (alternative, piano)
theSTART (new wave, alternative, indie)
Stefy (electro, new wave)
Tegan And Sara (indie, alternative)

This doesn't even include classic artists (The Slits, X-Ray Spex) or bands that have recently broken up (Distillers, Sleater-Kinney, Stiffed).

Counted 70 female artists on my iPod. Sade, Bebel Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, and Me'Shell have the most tracks attributed to them.

After reviewing what female artist touches my soul with their music, there are ONLY a handful that MOVE me. I'd say Rachelle Ferrell is my favorite all time female singer. After her, there is a BIG dropoff.
