That's kind of obvious since you said Lita Ford already.

Vixen (I think this all-girl metal band lasted at least 2 albums).

My friend in college had Vixen's first album. I listened to it a few times. I purposely didn't mention them. razz

I hired someone to catalogue my music collection and organize everything. The strange thing is that women artist only make up about 5% of my music collection. I NEVER really noticed that until now. I'm talking about 1000's of cd's and albums.

I wonder why that is? I guess women don't make good music. At least where my taste is concerned. Any thoughts?

I think mine would be less than 5 percent and I'm female.

I like a few female artists but I don't really spend money on them.

With female artists, it would be albums from Janet, En Vogue, TLC, Teena Marie, and (maybe) Christina. That's it!

All other females artists as singles & mp3s.

At least heavy metal has Lita Ford. So that's no excuse.

Metal has a lot more women than Lita Ford. Like:

Lacuna Coil
Nightwish
Kittie
My Ruin
Arch Enemy
Lullacry
Otep
The Gathering
Flowing Tears
Flyleaf
Damone
and many more...

Men ONLY make up 5% of my music collection.

Women's interpretations of pain & joy are more pronounced IMHO. Thats why they call them,,,emotional? I don't know, maybe. Besides, the ladies are more intersting, versatile and flexible, as opposed to the more calculated, one dimensioned boring ass opposite sex.

Whether its Jazz, soul, gospel, opera, hip-hop, RnB, rock, funk or Arabic.

The ladies dominate my rotation.

Now I'm really curious. I'm going to count my collection (which is...erm...quite small)

hmmm Now are we counting ownership of an artist as 1 or are we counting each CD?

I have a hunch it may be 50/50

There are a lot of women playing rock currently. It's just that radio and video don't pay any attention to them beyond Evanescence and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

What kind of rock are you looking for? Alternative, punk, metal, folk? I'll give you some names.

There are a lot of women playing rock currently. It's just that radio and video don't pay any attention to them beyond Evanescence and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

What kind of rock are you looking for? Alternative, punk, metal, folk? I'll give you some names.

really, any kind! I love music suggestions and (trying not to seem like a crazy stalker) you've got good taste.
Your avatar is the reason I started hunting for Siouxsie & the Banshees' albums lol

I would say that probably 85% of my music from the 1980s is by male groups. At the risk of sounding sexist, I like my music hard, slammin', uptempo, and funky. The people that throwdown those type of jams are usually men. There are women that have some hard jams but they still didn't seem to be as hard as the men's jams.

I remember when I used to make tapes in the 1980s. I would never follow a song by a female with another song by a female. It just seemed to weaken the flow of the jams. All that changed though in the 1990s. The only jams during the 1990s was house music and most of it was made by women. Probably 85% of my music from the 1990s was made by females doing house music. Although, when I think about it, I think most of the house music was produced by men and all the women had to do with the songs was just sing so it was still men behind the jams.

From what I've seen, when a female artist I'm into makes a statement like..."I'm going to have more input on my next album"....it usually turns out to be a much weaker album with less jams and more ballads on it. Even most women I've seen in general are into more "touching", "that song means so much to me", "oh, what a pretty song" "emotional" type stuff. There are exceptions though but, from what I've seen, they have been rare such as Klymaxx which were some bad girls and Bernadette Cooper was a bad ass bitch when she put together Madame X. Hell, give me some funk and keep the "caring and sharing" shit.

Tsk, tsk, MG. I'm sooo disapointed in you. mad
Just out of curiosity who is your favorite female singer or musician?
