Hell, I've owned it for years, and I'm sure that I haven't even listened to the entire thing once. Even when I was in my Janet-fanatic days, I never pulled out 'Janet Jackson' or 'Dream Street'. They're as generic as 20 YO.

Nah, in 1986 I listened to 'Dream Street' almost as much as 'Control'. Many times I would play the two of them back to back. I mean 'Dream Street' has Michael on it, Jesse Johnson on it--when I was 16 years old I thought it was cool. The first album is the one that gets the least amount of love from me. I didn't get that one until a few years later.

Speaking for myself.....

The Velvet Rope was Janet's final masterpiece. This album was so autobiographical by all counts. This was all of the negative feelings that Janet was hiding after so many year being sum up with the darkest album of her career. Her pain, depression, lust (counting a hint of bisexuality), loneliness, sadness, anger, and a serious need for therpy was so real when I listen to those songs.

"French Blue" is a b-side from this era though, and I like that one.

That "sappy slow jam duet" is with the great Cliff Richard! He's the Elvis of England! At least mention his name, lol.

Seriously 'Dream Street' is a very nostalgic listen for me since I bought it immediately after 'Control', but had the "Don't Stand Another Chance" 7" pre-Control. It reminds me of those long road trips with my parents during the 80s when I use to listen to the cassette on my walkman in the back seat.

As in Xanadu Cliff Richard??
