Anyone remember this DVD? Virgin should've put this one on hold for a while, two years ago:

I own this DVD and it's a pretty good summary of mostly all of the videos she made during the Virgin Records-era from 1993 to 2004. But, instead of just releasing a simple videos compilation, it would've been wiser if they released a companion CD to this DVD.

Here's the tracklisting:

"That's the Way Love Goes"
"If"
"Again"
"Because of Love"
"Any Time, Any Place"
"You Want This"
"Got 'Til It's Gone" [Featuring Q-Tip & Joni Mitchell]
"Together Again"
"I Get Lonely" [Original Version]
"Go Deep"
" You"
" Every Time"
"Together Again" [Deeper Remix]
"All For You"
"Someone to Call My Lover" [So So Def Remix Feat. JD]
"Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song is About You)"
"I Want You"
"All Nite (Don't Stop)"

Virgin should have released a companion cd with the dvd but it wasn't really time for a dvd because if and when a GH set comes people are going really be mad to already own most of that dvd(if there ever will be one) and they already have most of the videos from the "janet. to Damita Jo" dvd.

I definitely agree! It seems pretty strange and misleading for Virgin to even release the same videos over and over without a compilation of her biggest hits on the label. Since her latest album, 20 Y.O. completes her multi-album deal with Virgin Records, i believe this is the appropriate time for Virgin to release a compilation. It will certainly help the sales and popularity of 20 Y.O. grow a little more.

I have to say that it is more interesting when it isn't in chronological order.

Like, I love Prince The Hits for that.

I remember reading a fan writing to a magainze about the fact "Design" wasn't selling for that reason....Most people that would be attracted to it already own both albums (if not all three, with "janet") and they better off buying the maxi single for both new songs (I think "Twenty Four Play" had a maxi single release) and it would be cheaper.

If I were a causal fan of Janet's, and didn't own either album, I probably wouldn't realize the bulk of the material is from two albums. The fact that they include only one "janet" single is just frustrating....I understand why you hate the collection!

The fact that there weren't at least a song from Janet Jackson OR Dream Street that made it on Design Of A Decade makes THAT greatest hits collection an incomplete album, IMO.

none of the songs from her first, self-titled album or Dream Street even come close to qualifying as "greatest hits" for Janet, in that none of them were hits, and none of them are great.

Exactly.

Chronological flow just spoils the surprise element for you as you're listening and predicting what song/era is coming on next.

the DVD I swear is in the exact order the singles were released, which is fine for a video compilation but makes for a boring listen.

I guess that's one thing DOAD has going for it, and the reason I still listen to it.

right. and that's where the "greatest" part of a "greatest hits" comes in. it's the biggest and the best. nothing from her debut or Dream Street even comes close. biggrin

I can tell you what won't be on it. Anything from her first two albums. With her, only pop hits count.

And I keep forgetting to say this but I love your avatar! What's his name again...is he still on the show?

I bought Design Of A Decade so I could get Runaway and Twenty Foreplay, and I'm happy with the 7" edits compiled on there... but you get my point. smile

...and his name is Barkley. mr.green

The tracks on the U.S. release were longer than the actual 7" versions. The 7" edits were only on the U.K. version to accommodate the extra tracks "The Best Things In Life Are Free" and "Whoops Now".

I'm the opposite. I HATE when singles comps are all mixed up like that. I want to hear the artist's progression as time goes by. If you want surprise, that's what the shuffle button is for on your player.

I'd rather see a Janet slow jams collection, come to think of it.

1. Take Care
2. Anytime Anyplace
3. I Get Lonely
4. Rope Burn
5. Love 2 Love
6. Someday is Tonight
7. With U
8. The Body that Loves You
9. Would You Mind
10. I Want You
11. Thinkin Bout My Ex
12. Come Back to Me
13. Lets Wait Awhile

Now THAT shit would be hot.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

what about a 3cd set. called...ummm "Hits & B-sides" that has a familiar ring to it. hmmm

but seriously..if and when they do a hits (i'd prefer a singles) collection, i agree that songs from every album should be included. and don't leave out any singles. they'd also be wise to do the proper promotion for it. maybe this is what it would take for a lot of people/media to regain interest in Janet Jackson and remind them of her great songs and put to rest a single incident that got completely blown out of porportion.

maybe she should re-release "Come Back To Me" giggle

Fair enough. But die-hard Janetfans remembers those bubblegum soul cult classics like Young Love, Dream Street, and Fast Girls. If A&M & Virgin/EMI were to do another Janet Collection, they need to cover all of her career albums. Janet's music career is a little bigger than only 20 years.
