Yeah well if she is finishing her contract, we'll probably see this one anyway.

I vote for all the songs that were on the All For You DVD, plus "All Nite", "I Want You", "So Excited", "Call On Me".

Now, I have seen singles for R&B Junkie, but never did I hear it being played and I never saw a video for it.

Yeah I think Scream is more associated with MJ being that it was a duet for his album.

If it's a true hits collection, most of the singles from Damita Jo will not be on it. Maybe, Just a little While, given that it was the closest thing to a hit on the album.
It would be different if it was a best of collection,in which case, i would put R&b Junkie and All nite.

"Scream Hasn't even been on an MJ set other than "History"'s new disc. I agree that if it were a true hits collection...but Madonna (Or WB) put "Bedtime Stories" the single (and "Human Nature") on GVH2. Those didn't burn up the pop charts. I think "All Nite" will be included because it's a huge fan favorite. I think of all the DJ songs, that might stand the test of time (and I hope it's included in her live show). Here's what should be on there.

1. That's the Way Love Goes (even if it was on Decade...it would be strange to not see it on this Virgin set)
2. If
3. Again
4. Because Of Love
5. You Want This
6. Anytime, Anyplace
7. Got 'Til It's Gone
8. Together Again
9. I Get Lonely
10. Go Deep
11. Mr. Lover (w/ Shaggy...it was on Virgin)
12. What's It Gonna Be (w/ Busta)
13. Doesn't Really Matter
14. All For You
15. Someone To Call My Lover
16. I Want You
17. Just A Little While
18...oh shit...

Ok, it's waaay too crowded....I wouldn't doubt they do the two disc thing and remix songs include a song of uptempo numbers...It wouldn't be much of a price difference. I don't know.

I don't think Janet should use GHV2 as a template for putting together a hits collection of the second half of her pop music career though. Looking back, GHV2 was just a mess. The edits, the tracks chosen, the lack of new tracks to promote the collection, the stupid commentary written by the man on the park bench, etc.

Janet should stick strictly with the hits and add a few new tracks to promote it.

Honestly though, i'm not a big fan of these GH collections of the second half of the music career. They should just issue a solid 2 disc GH package. They should put Design of a Decade out of print and just issue a new solid 2 disc hits collection. Not gonna happen, i know. But i really doubt this part 2 collection will sell that well.

Wish someone here would assemble the chart information on these songs, otherwise it's just a singles collection. You know damn well some of her singles flopped and don't deserve to shine on a compilation like this. Madonna's second greatest hits compilation was weak for that.

Well wait a sec, wasn't A&M shut down during a record industry merger? Maybe it would be easy to organize.

Ok. well let's check Allmusic.com. I know all of the singles released on "janet". were at least Top Ten (assuming that "Throb" was not a proper single).

Here are the Billboard Hot 100 numbers for her solo Virgin years (so far).

Song Title Peak
That's the Way... 1
If 4
Again 1
Anytime, Any Place 2
Because Of Love 10
You Want This 8
Runaway (A&M) 3
Together Again 1
I Get Lonely 3
Doesn't Really Matter 1
All For You 1
Someone To Call My Lover 3
Son For A Gun 28
I Want You 57
Just A Little While 45
Call On Me 25
So Excited 90 (Ouch!)

Bonuses
Rythmic Top 40 (only based on airplay..)
Where Are You Now 12
On and On 17

"Go Deep" (which didn't get a commerical single release and might have missed the window to peak on the Hot 100 without having that, as did "Got 'Til It's Gone") and "All Nite" both peaked at 1 on the dance charts (so did "Just A Little While"...not a typical dance song). "Call On Me" peaked at number one the R&B charts and 2 on the dance charts. Allmusic.com also lists Candain single peaks up to a certain point (might've started in the mid ninties). "Just A Little While" peaked all the way up to number 3 there!

Just based on good Hot 100 numbers, it would be mostly a "janet." affair with a smattering of "Velvet Rope" and "All For You" while based on those numbers, maybe DJ and "20 YO" wouldn't get a second look except for maybe "Call On Me"...that wouldn't be worth investing in. As much as people like to dog on DJ and even "20 Y.O", you can't deny her "All Nite"!

According to this, "Got 'Til It's Gone" and "R&B Junkie" never charted anywhere, not even on the R&B charts.

I bet it was but with "Design...." on the market and probably not going anywhere, I don't see Virgin doing a 2 disc set with A&M material, which would frankly outshine her Virgin hits. IIf they really did it that way, they would pretty much be releasing "Design" just as disc one of this new set...I mean, what could they get rid of....nothing!

it'll be out next fall, i'm sure.

don't know about order, but this is what i'm guessing will be on it:

That's The Way Love Goes
If
Again
Any Time Any Place
Got Til It's Gone
Together Again
I Get Lonely
Go Deep
Doesn't Really Matter
All For You
Someone To Call My Love
Son Of A Gun (maybe)
Just A Little While
I Want You
All Nite (Don't Stop)
Call On Me
So Excited
Enjoy (maybe, unless it's DOA when/if it gets released as a single)

plus one new track.

and maybe there'll be room (i haven't added up the track lengths of the above) for Everytime and You Want This

I remember reading a fan writing to a magainze about the fact "Design" wasn't selling for that reason....Most people that would be attracted to it already own both albums (if not all three, with "janet") and they better off buying the maxi single for both new songs (I think "Twenty Four Play" had a maxi single release) and it would be cheaper.

If I were a causal fan of Janet's, and didn't own either album, I probably wouldn't realize the bulk of the material is from two albums. The fact that they include only one "janet" single is just frustrating....I understand why you hate the collection!

And I keep forgetting to say this but I love your avatar! What's his name again...is he still on the show?

there was no commercial release in the US for Twenty Foreplay. it was planned, but cancelled at the last minute because the song was underperforming.

i understand why there was just the one janet. single. it was an A&M album, and the licensing fees were probably too big to get more tracks from Virgin at that time, but they wanted to represent that album in some way.

i think they would have been better off putting Diamonds, The Best Things In Life Are Free and State Of The World on there. and made all the tracks the single edits/remix-edits.

1. Universial owns A&M Records and it wasn't shut down. In fact, the label is actually a A&M/Interscope/Geffen music group (Black Eyed Peas & The Pussycat Dolls are on the A&M imprint, The Game on Geffen imprint, and Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Enimen, & Nine Inch Nails with ties to the Interscope imprint).

2. Universial might "play nice" with Virgin/EMI if they can agree on a Janet Jackson Ultimate Collection or even a Janet Jackson Gold Collection.

The fact that there weren't at least a song from Janet Jackson OR Dream Street that made it on Design Of A Decade makes THAT greatest hits collection an incomplete album, IMO.

Anyone remember this DVD? Virgin should've put this one on hold for a while, two years ago:

I own this DVD and it's a pretty good summary of mostly all of the videos she made during the Virgin Records-era from 1993 to 2004. But, instead of just releasing a simple videos compilation, it would've been wiser if they released a companion CD to this DVD.

Here's the tracklisting:

"That's the Way Love Goes"
"If"
"Again"
"Because of Love"
"Any Time, Any Place"
"You Want This"
"Got 'Til It's Gone" [Featuring Q-Tip & Joni Mitchell]
"Together Again"
"I Get Lonely" [Original Version]
"Go Deep"
" You"
" Every Time"
"Together Again" [Deeper Remix]
"All For You"
"Someone to Call My Lover" [So So Def Remix Feat. JD]
"Son of a Gun (I Betcha Think This Song is About You)"
"I Want You"
"All Nite (Don't Stop)"

The fact that it was called "Design of A Deacade" was a pretty cleaver way of getting around that. Janet really does not acknowledge those songs and makes a lot of effort to do so (even "20 YO"....I mean, who does to commerate their first hit album?).

Excatly....It wouldn't have taken that much to add that rap to it. I do like the Blackstreet remix of "I Get Lonely"....It's not radically different from the original other than the fact that Janet has to share vocals. Might be nice considering the audience considering a large part of the audience buying thise set already owns all of these songs already...but why would Virgin or any other record company do somehting nice!

Well they'll probably just keep tacking on videos, because the same shit was released in 2001, remember?

That's the Way Love Goes; If; Again; Because of Love; Any Time, Any Place; You Want This; janet. - Behind the Scenes; Got 'Til It's Gone; Together Again; Together Again (Deeper Remix); I Get Lonely; Go Deep; You; Every Time; Velvet Rope - Behind the Scenes; All For You; Someone to Call My Lover; All For You - Behind the Scenes; All For You (Live at mtvICON).

And I keep forgetting to say this but I love your avatar! What's his name again...is he still on the show?

I bought Design Of A Decade so I could get Runaway and Twenty Foreplay, and I'm happy with the 7" edits compiled on there... but you get my point. smile

...and his name is Barkley. mr.green
