I'm offended! What gives these celebrities the right to just buy kids like that? This seems to be a new trend in Hollywood now. Next Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton will be doing it.

so,is this story true or false? Madonna's publicist denies that she has adopted an African baby, but everywhere else, folks are reporting that she has confuse On one of our newschannels, they even showed pictures of the child.

Well what i dont get bout this story is that the childs father let madonna adopt him, now if madonna is all caring and whatever as the media is trying to be, then why not take the father and the one yr old child together??

Seems kinda harsh to take away the child from his/her own father, for the merrylife of england.

this still seems fishy to me.

At least Madonna is putting her money where her mouth is.She is donating millions of dollars to help these kids. You gotta applaud her for that.

Until there's an official announcement i wont believe it. If true, im not sure what to make of it. there's something that simply doesnt sit right with the whole issue, probably because there seem to be a few celebs doing this lately, and the horrible sense of a trend seems to be creeping in.

Looking at it objectively however, i dont see how it differs from couples who adopt Chinese orphans or any kind of orphan for that matter. By all accounts Madonna has been trying to conceive for 3 years but cannot do so anymore and so has turned to adoption - I dont have a problem with that. I just hope she does it throught the right channels, and doesnt use her celebrity status or wealth to fast track the whole thing or cut corners.

More to the point, im glad to see her using her wealth and status positively again with this charity she's involved in.

the child wasn't living with the father, he was in a orphanage, and the father has been speaking to the press and he's Happy that his child will have a chance at a better life.... plus the child will make regular visit

Congrats to Madge.. The baby is BEAUTIFUL.

I don't know her situation or the child's circumstances at all. I agree with the comment upthread about it becoming this celebrity trend to adopt children in Africa or.. whereever. If one wanted to adopt, I would imagine there are American children who need a home, too, but AT LEAST some celebrities are trying to make a positive contribution to the world---sooooo it's difficult to be too critical.

Going a route other than adoption--particularly from a foreign country, there is the option of sponsoring a child. . .. helping the family support the child in its own culture or community.

Also there are programs that a person can buy goat for a family. That way the family stays intact:

Here's a little somethin' I wanted to post about world's #1 tennis player Roger Federer--whom I adore. He is a UNICEF spokesperson, and in his honor ATP in conjunction with UNICEF is selling FEDER-bears:

that's not her point at all. confused

her point is that it seems like its "FASHIONABLE" to go "buy" some ethnic child and "save" them from a life of whatever.

I'm sure the child will be blessed and well taken care of. As some of have stated, there are so many ways to bless the ppl of Africa in rebuilding their countries. I've heard of the benefits of buying a goat for a family. Its a great program. Madonna would do more to help trade and commerce.

Personally, I would love to adopt a child from Africa or up the street.

I do understand were Dancerella was coming from.

Also we need to make adoption an easier process here in the US.

Thank you very much Rhondab! I just think it's sick that all of a sudden it's cool to adopt a child from Africa. Yes, on one hand it can be looked at as admirable and doing something worthy but look a little deeper at the situation. It just doesn't seem right to me.

From what is being reported, she is pumping some dough into Malawi and the community in particular where the child was born.

But I can already see how this discussion is going to go; it's definitely heading towards the 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' arena neutral

I bring my own bias toward American celebrity adoptions: It's always somewhere "exotic."

It's always the Far East or, lately, Africa...

How about Little Rashid, Jerome or Esmerelda from West Baltimore or East Nashville?

I agree. It's wonderful to adopt a child from any country (I'm adopted from India myself), but the overseas adoptions are looking rather trendy among celebs. If anyone does adopt just for publicity, I hope they remember how "trendy" they are years down the road when their child needs help with algebra homework, or wants to spend more time with their busy celebrity parents! My mother chose India for her adoption in the early 80's because it was much easier (and less costly) than a US adoption. Celebs have enough money and power to adopt from anywhere. I agree with those saying that there are many ways to help out nations in need. My mother actually sponsers 2 Indian children, and helps pay for their schooling and medical care.

While celebs are flocking to Africa to adopt babies, there are plenty of African American babies in need of homes. A friend of mine and his wife are in the process of adopting an African American child. They were told by the agency that many African American mothers are turned away when trying to give their babies up for adoption, because not enough people will adopt their babies. sad That is very tragic to me. I hope that US adoption will become easier for us "normal folks". It may make it easier for US born babies to find homes.

People say "There are kids in American that need to be adopted too." That's correct. But the living conditions for orphaned kids in the US are a lot better than those of orphans in the third world.

Yeah, that's what's tough about it. I came from overseas, and I would probably be living in a slum without clean water if I had not been adopted. Basically, adoption of any kind does make a difference.

A couple of celebs have done it, so that makes it a trend? Out of the thousands of celebs in public view that a few are doing it doesn't make that statement true. And even if it is, if they're doing it out of the goodness of their heart - and they seem to be - so be it. I highly doubt that they're going to treat their own children like a fad and shelf them once they're "out of style." So, you think in a few years from now, we'll see a shelf of used black plastic bracelets, a shelf of rosaries and a shelf of AIDS orphans collecting dust in Madonna's home? I don't see it happening.

I know the old broad has done a lot in the name of media attention, but she's been devoted to AIDS awareness and education nearly as long as she's been in the public spotlight. If she's carried on that charade for 20+ years all in the name of "me, Me, ME!" then she deserves an award for putting on a good fucking show. She seems genuinely vested in helping Malawi and continues her work with HIV. Cut the woman some slack.

Maybe its just me, but seeing how this has happened in bout a week, from what the media ia reporting, its sounds like shes picking out a puppy at the pound instead of child.

Like she was in a shelter and saw some doe eyed pup whining so she had to take care of it.

I still think its all media and pr.

But if its true then it just seems rather unplanned.'
