Yeah, i bought "Patti Austin" (1984) and "Gettin` away with murder" on LP a few weeks ago, and i love both albums, although i was suprised to read that Michael Bolton (!!) wrote one of the best songs on "murder", the uptempo, "Talkin` bout my baby"

I think her jazz records are her best, "Dream street" and the "For Ella" album is wonderful...

I wonder if she will release a christmas album, her voice is perfect for it.

I was just thinking what a great music year this is, we got new albums from
Prince
Cat Stevens
Kim Wilde
Natalie Cole
Randy Crawford
Patti Austin
Dionne Warwick
Miki Howard
Janet Jackson
Teena Marie
Oleta Adams
Gladys Knight
and two new Diana Ross albums

Not bad nod

Cool, Patti looks great & healthy. I love her 1st lp "Say you Love me"
still sounds good. She made MJ's "off the wall" for me

I'm not that deep into Patti's music, sorry to say.

The only thing I got from her is this:

Good collection, but the jazz and standards albums she`s been doing since the early 90s are much better

Just listen to this sample of "Hearing Ella sing" from her Ella Fitzgerald tribute album, i think you`ll like it wink

I'm fimiliar with that too,,,,but somehow, cover albums/standards leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I probably shouldn't say this since I love Echos Of An Era from Chaka. But knowing what these sistas COULD do while the sky's the limit, and all they settle with is doing these albums; sounds like a "safe" move.

I can't judge 'em to be honest, coz god knows how tough the house mortgage/rent, gas price and all the other stuff that keeps a roof up on our heads are.

I still haven`t gotten "Echoes of an era" doh! I`m sure the album is good, especially compared to "Classikhan"...

I like Diana Ross` "Blue" album, and several other standards albums, but it can get a little too much, it seems like EVERYONE`S doing it now.

What annoys me is that it`s the same songs that get covered over and over again, they could have chosen less obvious songs nod

The only diva of them group who recorded standard session(s) and got away with it for being so damn good is Aretha Franklin.

Her Columbia years are out of the universe,,,,,esp her readings of Dinah Washington's gems and Lady Day's God Bless The Child music

Personally, i don`t like her the music she made for columbia, i bought two cd called "Soul sister" and "Aretha sings the blues", hearing her sing "It's In His Kiss " didn`t do much for me, but there`s some hidden gems, like "Take a look"
