Is "SLIDE" by Slave the funkiest jam ever? I pulled this one out today and I must say this may be one of the funkiest songs of all time. I looped it for 30 minutes. I would love to see Prince cover this instead of "Love Rollercoaster." ______________________________________________

"Is 'SLIDE' by Slave the funkiest jam ever?"
Yes. And overall, Slave is quite underrated. Good sample loop of "Slide" featured in: A Tribe Called Quest "Go Ahead In The Rain" [1990, People's Instinctive Travels]

Damn straight.
And if you think that's funky as all get-out, listen to "Weak At The Knees" by Steve Arrington's Hall of Fame. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

If Slide isnt the funkiest, then their Just A Touch(Of Love) is. I think this is what Arsenio meant when he would talk about "booga nose" funk "Climb in my fur."

I HATE it when certain radio stations cut out the middle section with the flute solo. That sickens me!! This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Funny you should mention Slave because just yesterday I was grooving to their 1981 'ShowTime' album.Remember the hits "Snap Shot" and "Wait For Me"?
But yes, their 1977 hit "Slide" is one of the funkiest jams EVER! That never-ending guitar solo kicks ass!!!

"Slide" is QUITE funky..
but what about: STONE JAM or WEAK AT THE KNEES? Especially the bassline on STONE JAM- NASTY! Slave is underrated, in terms of funk bands. They were like an "early version" of The Time (without the attitude): musically tight, a mix of styles, but always with that funky bottom. Steve Arrington was an unbelievable singer in that group. They definitely made an impression on me. "Watching You" isn't as funky as the above-mentioned songs, but Arrington's singing defies description..! I'm gonna go put on some Slave tonight when I get home.. I'll see you tonight..

I HATE it when certain radio stations cut out the middle section with the flute solo. That sickens me!! Yea I really hate it when "I Wanna Be Your Lover" is cut short before Prince goes into that funky synth jam at the end. Nobody ever plays it and it's awesome! ______________________________________________

Oh yes, indeed it's funky, but not thee funkiest. That title is held by Larry Graham's "Hair". Comin' a close second would be "27 Million Valdez" by 24-7 Spyz.

Slide is the $hit! I first heard it in Jr. High. (I thought it was called "Sly" at least that's what I wrote on the blackboard. Years later I remember wishing that someone would put out a Slave/Arrington comp. Good thing wishes do come true!

Love Slave. If you can find their 83 release "Bad Enuff" you would be in for the treat of your life. This was post Steve Arrington and much slept on. A lot of Slave fans don't even remember this album. The song "In and Out" from that album is actually on of the best Slave songs ever. You would have to find this album used for sure. I found this review over a Rollingstone. Anyone else remember this album?
Slave Bad Enuff After 1982's disappointing Visions of the Lite, it was logical to assume that Slave was past its prime. But the Dayton funksters' next album, Bad Enuff, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Although it falls short of remarkable, this solid, pleasing album was a definite improvement over Visions of the Lite. Bad Enuff isn't in a class with The Concept, Just a Touch of Love, or Stone Jam, but it's an enjoyable, satisfying record -- and unlike Visions of the Light, it proved that there could be life after Steve Arrington for Slave. This Jimmy Douglass-produced LP found the band unveiling a new lineup; original members Mark Adams (bass), Danny Webster (lead vocals, lead guitar), and Floyd Miller (lead vocals) were joined by several newcomers, including lead singers Eugene Jackson and Wayne Foote, keyboardist Kenny Hairston, saxman Albrey Rivers, and trumpeter Kenny Anderson. Despite all the personnel changes, Slave is instantly recognizable as Slave on lively, infectious offerings like "Bad Girl," "Rendezvous," and the single "Shake It Up." While Visions of the Light had listeners lamenting Arrington's departure from Slave, Bad Enuff proved that it could get along without him. Bad Enuff isn't recommended to casual listeners, who would be better off sticking with the Midwesterners' essential 1977-1981 work. But it isn't a bad album to have in your collection if you're among Slave's die-hard fans. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide [This message was edited Fri Jun 20 10:01:17 PDT 2003 by intha916] Bringing Together Five Decades of R&B/Funk/Soul/Dance
