I read in your profile that Miki Howards` "Miki sings Billie" is one of your favorite albums, i LOVE that album too, "Ain`t nobody`s business if i do" always makes me smile dancing jig

Haaaave mercy lol I haven't looked at my OWN profile since I made it(which was in 2002).

Ain't fond much of that album anymore though,,,it was b4 my Lady Day obession lol when I got into Billie's music deeply I realized what was missing in Miki's effort: intimacy.

Nice tribute though,,,,,I do however love her version of "Good Morning Heartache" ft. Joe Sample and Dinah Washington's "This Bitter Earth" from her classic album Femme Fatale.

BTW this is one bad compilation...

I know you`re a great admirer of Billie Holiday, so i`ll have to ask you, what do you think of her "Lady in satin" album?

AND, what do you think of Diana Ross` portrayal of Billie Holiday in the movie "Lady sings the blues"?

Thee most personal album from Lady Day nod

All the letters of B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T.

She acted well, but the plot is grabage from start 2 finish(You have to read Billie's bio Wishing On The Moon by Donald Clarke to get a sense who the REAL Billie Holiday was).

Billie wasn't a vicitm(like the movie portrayed) she chose her own lifestyle,,,and Louis McKay sure as hell wasn't her knight(Billy Dee Williams), he was one of the many pimps who she got with, who exploited her, beat her the hell up, supplied her with the drugs to keep her in line(unlike what the movie portrays) in fact, he was a junkie like her too.

Everything was to sansualize Diana's name(since she and Berry Gordy were at their peak, career-wise).

Once again, you have to go to that book I mentioned.

I`ll have to read that book, and check out the recent thread here about bioraphies of artists. I`ve heard of a book about Lena Horne, written by her daughter, should be interesting nod

Anyway, about the movie, for me, and perhaps for many others, the movie is just another opportunity to see Diana Ross looking pretty, and i think (correct me if i`m mistaken) that it was the idea of the whole project, making Ross an even bigger star. BUT i admire her for taking the part, i`m sure many were sceptical, but she gave 100 %, and she should have won the oscar for best actress, especially when you think of who she was up against rolleyes

You're correct on Diana's role on the movie.

Don't slam me though lol but I think that Cabaret was FAAAAAR more intresting movie than Lady Sings The Bluse. And if anybody who should've won that night, it was Cicley Tyson(on her Sounder, I think), not Liza nor Diane.

Looking at the brighter side, it brought Lady Day back to the mainstream scene(dozens of compilations were produced, 100s of articles new & old were re-issued, TV/Radio documentaries were aired and real bio books were on the work).

So you know, the youngsters re-discovered her again.

I tried watching Cabaret, but i just couldn`t get into it, and Liza Minnelli looked like a corpse, she looked scary confused

I`m not that familiar with Holiday`s life or music, but there are some beautiful songs that i associate with her.

"God bless the the child"
"Speak low"
"Don`t explain"
"But beautiful"
