yes but janet can't sing and Prince's guitar alone would wipe out her voice.

umm not true Janet has done rock songs before blackcat, trust a try. hell actually prince should perform " this body' with Janet that would be hotbecuse the guitar in it kind of reminds of a prince song.
[Edited 10/10/06 19:30pm]

you know what, you're right, and silly me, Trust A Try is actually my favorite performance from AFY.

I never liked Janet's live voice, but because everything else is going on that's good (the dancing and the costumes), I don't mind,

HOWEVER!!!!

if Prince is killing me softly with a wicked guitar solo, I sure as hell don't want her voice to fuck it up.

I've been saying this for years: Janet simply needs to EVOLVE as an artist. She is still stuck in 1993,playing the whole "sex kitten" role and I think that people are tired of it.In the past few months,I have seen her on the cover of numerous magazines,half-naked with her hands over her boobs.Don't get me wrong, she's sexy as hell razz but in the end,you have to wonder: is this all she has to offer? At 40 years old ,is this the only message she wants to send? After the whole Superbowl fiasco, she should now be trying to change the subject and show the world that she is a serious, credible artist with something to say.Instead, she made yet another sex-themed R&B album, which is already tumbling down the charts. Her career is far from over, but it would be nice to see her branch out,re-invent herself and try something new for a change.

as i said, i've heard the first 2 singles, and i'm not very impressed. nor was i impressed when i tried to listen to some of the album tracks. what more do you want? me to sit through an album i'm clearly not interested in just so i can confirm for myself that i don't like it much? i already know that at this point. i'm not a masochist.

I'm loving 20 YO...it's a great album! Fun, relaxing album! Shame people have so much prejudice towards music and can't open their minds to fun pop. As moombeam, it's their loss. 20 YO will gain a cult following.

The promotion of the album was a disaster...let's face. The album bombed because of the first single...nowdays slow songs don't do as 1st singles! That was in the 80's where Madonna could release a ballad like Live to tell and be number 1

They tried 2 make Call on me the new We belong together...great mistake! confused

at least part of the blame must go to Jermaine Dupri. He was behind much of the marketing for this album. He tried to make Janet an "urban" artist, when in the past, she was always more pop.Big mistake.

I think the whole 20 year old hype thing just fell flat and people got bored and moved on. Especially since the CD didn't pay any homage to Control whatsoever as Janet had stated, and the marketing was not so much on the music but how hot she looks at 40.

I agree, the marketing behind this CD wasn't very effective.Janet did several interviews, but rarely ever discussed the actual music! It seems as if the focus was only on her body, and all the weight she lost.

Janet's 20 Y.O. has fallen out of the Top 10 according to HitsDailyDouble.

The album sits at number 12 according to the chart, selling just under 70K in its second week--an astronomical drop from 296K last week.

This is uglier than I thought. What the fuck is going on?

I'll tell you the answer. It's because Janet Jackson and her new album are shit. Do I win a prize? razz

That's a little harsh,isn't it? lol

I don't think she should retire. She just needs to evolve as an artist.Go in another whole direction.Re-invent herself. She needs a fresh new sound and style.Last year, the best song on the radio was Gorillaz "Feels Good Inc".Janet should call up those guys and ask for a groove like that...something fresh and edgy! She needs to ditch Jermaine Dupri and Jam and Lewis. That sound is played out.Today's R&B is artistically dead, there's nowhere else to go with that music.

Gorillaz only work with good singers, or people with distinctive voices (i.e: Dennis Hopper). She needs to get proactive and sack her team and maybe go and work with some European dancemeisters, like Madonna did and Kelis has done. Not that she will, of course. JD will just blame Def Jam, racism, tittygate, George Bush and Tony Blair - in short everyone and everything but himself. And his girlfriend. Janet seems like a puppet now.

I wasn't gonna mention the "M" word,but yeah,you are right lol

Madonna wisely stays away from boring American producers. She opts for more edgier, more interesting sounds. And she's not afraid to switch producers and try new sounds.Janet seems to have forgotten that many of her fans are into fast dance music. They don't wanna hear midtempo R&B songs that could just as easily have been recorded by Ciara or Ashanti.

"Gorillaz only work with good singers,or people with distinctive voices"

Perhaps, but I doubt that they would turn down a major artist like Janet Jackson. She need to get out of her R&B comfort zone.

Oh how VoicesCarry would be right on your back if he were here lol

Anyways, it seems Janet likes to rely on the current man in her life to help her make hit music. I wasn't even aware of Rene's involvement in her past projects until reading stuff here. So unless she's dating an edgy European producer, i don't see her ever going in that direction.

What i think is that Janet should go on extended vacation, come back in 5 years and blow us away. The 2 year between albums is bringing back memories of SuperBowl and the controversy behind it...not that she's helping things be appearing half nude on all those magazine covers.
