I want to get into some funky/disco music! I love Prince.
I love "M'lady" and "Thankyouforlettingmebemicelfagain" or however it's spelt. I love The Jackson's "Triumph." I love Van Hunt's second album. I love Jam & Lewis's "Didn't Mean To Turn You On". I love "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai. I want more music in this vein. Anyone recommend me any artists/groups/songs I should hear?

You can't go wrong with ...
Donna Summer A Taste of Honey (first album is a classic) Chic Sister Sledge Diana Ross's "Diana" Rhino's 4 CD "Disco Box" "Disco Gold Vol 1" - early Tom Moulton mixed disco Cerrone - poor man's Moroder, but still pretty good ... tip of the iceberg. Expect to be inundated with suggestions. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Is any of Jam & Lewis's non-Janet 80s stuff worth checking out?

There´s one song that came to my mind after reading funky/disco - it´s Enaya Day´s Nasty Girl.
But yeah, Jamiroquai ain´t bad. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

At least name the songs. Now here's the rub, Vainandy's right in pointing you towards compilations, because the disco era produced more classic singles than it did albums. And I recommend Disco Gold without reservation, if only to get Patti Jo's Curtis Mayfield produced version of Ain't No Love Lost, which is one of the ultimate, bitterest putdown records. Do you get it?/If so how often?/Would you choose the hard or soft option? (Don't answer) There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I just boght Cherelle's "Best Of" but I'm sure you own that since you mentioned "I Didn't Mean...". SOS Band, of course. Ashford and Simpson had this funky cut titled "Found A Cure". I love it. Not sure if they have anything else out that funky, though. Their biggest hit is "Solid", you know. Funky disco...of course! My recent discovery of Claudja Barry! Most of her stuff is out of print (her "Best OF" is listed as still available but I think it's out of print and the web needs to catch up!) but she is funky. Her album "I Wanna Be Loved By You" is really hot, filled with different types of songs. Two highlights are the big hit "Boogie Woogie Dancin' Shoes" and a cover titled "Heavy Makes You Happy", which is combined as a medely with the classic, campy title track...odd combo but intersting! Can you give more specific what is that what kind of funk and disco you looking for? I mean dude people are giving you some great suggestions of places where you can find some good yet rare disco and funk music of 70s and 80s. Yet it seems like you still aren't satisfied and you are ungrateful. Oh well at least I tried to help.

vainandy said: Already recomended Donna. THat's, as a whole, probably her funkiest album. Some funky cuts appear on "Once Upon A Time...", too. Can anyone hear show some love of Claudja Barry?

Depends on what era you want. I listened to a lot of Disco from 1975-1980 when I got into New Wave. Rhapsody from Real Music has a great selection of Disco and 80s 12 inch versions and iTunes. I downloaded Prince's Let's Work 12 inch a month ago and Donna Summer's Four Seasons of Love.
Some good disco/dance songs: Over and Over by Disco Circus So Many Men So Little Time - (forgot her name) The Best Part of Breaking Up - Roni Griffith Calling All Boys - The Flirts Get Off - Foxy Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me - Peter Brown I Feel Love - Donna Summer To Cut a Long Story Short - Spandau Ballet Boogie Oogie Oogie - A Taste of Honey Shame - Evelyn Champagne King Sun Is Here - Sun Groove Line/Boogie Nights - Heatwave Behind the Groove - Teena Marie There are more, these are just some. There are so many and I have so many songs, that I'd have to go through them all. I try to stay away from the ones that have been played to death like Chic, Sister Sledge and Kool & the Gang. LQ
