Miles Davis at Fillmore is a complete mess,but I cannot stop listening to it.It's so edited and chopped up that it's like a precursor to a master mix. I have read reviews of it and they all blast it for too much editing,but I just listened to it without judgement and I think it's completely fascinating and funky. Miles' producer,teo macero,took tapes of Mile's week-long run at the Fillmore and tried to make a best of out of this.He completely screwed up,but created something special to me.The playing is always impeccable and there is a real sense of anguish in the jams.And if you are a fan of Miles' electric period ,you must own this.Miles and band reinvent the same tunes every time they play.I am completely in love with this cd.

Now,I entitled this a beautiful mess to describe how I feel about this one particular cd,but that reallycan be said about the whole electric period.It is as sloppy and funky as it is absolutely magical and funky.Miles' band is equal parts jazz band on acid and an improvisational funk band.Other cd's I've recently obtained from this period are The Complete In A Silent Way(classy while reaching for something new),Live at Philharmonic Hall sofunkyt hurts,and in my mind,links to freak funk by Prince like "positivity",black album, and others),Cellar Door Sessions(mind blowing funk band that plays jazz),and Black Beauty(live at Fillmore West and is proof that this band's music lives and breathes because the mood its in this night is indescribable.)Miles' bands are still the best bands alive.They still live and you can check my mind,my ipod,my cd player anytime you want for proof.I now know that I want to be buried with my cd's.Wherever I wind up I gotta have it because it makes my heart pump and my mind and soul collaborate to bring me closer to pure peace.
