David Sylvian ...
I've been on a David Sylvian kick lately, especially the Nine Horses/Snow Borne Sorrow collaboration. He always manages to find a meeting ground between Jazz, Pop, Avant Garde, Folk, Electronic, Ambient and even Funk...kinda Like Bryan Ferry and Bowie doing sessions with Miles Davis and Gil Evans!! anybody else into him? ... Apart from Prince he is my favorite artist.I got into him in 1988 with Secrets of the Beehive which is my favorite album by anyone.
I like his 80s output including the last three albums by Japan best. His latest electronic music doesn´t do much for me but the Nine Horses Project was a good return to form for him I think.

Yeah, I was hoping that Nine Horses would be more indicative of his projects to come, rather than Blemish, but I dunno....we'll see! ... I'm quite a fan of his (hence the avatar). I am also particularly fond of the last three Japan albums. Actually, Gentlemen Take Polaroids may be my favorite album of all time. I'm an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it. But now the dream is over and the insect is awake.

He is an amazing artist and among my top favourites as well. Secrets Of The Beehive is such an incredible piece of work. It is so disappointing that he could not include Forbidden Colours on the remaster ~ just can't bring myself to buy it without that cornerstone on it.
As difficult as Blemish is, when I'm in the right (deep, stark, challenging) mood, there is nothing like it. Snow Borne Sorrow is beautiful ~ painful and intense but gorgeous. And, the artwork is sublime. I'd love a rendering of it for my wall. Minimalist but I see a thousand worlds in it. Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

I've been meaning to check David out. I know very little about him. But he's got nice hair.
His album covers have a certain look, too. Was he ever on the 4AD label? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I don't think he ever did anything with 4AD ~ currently has his own label and a visually beautiful and interesting website ~~~~ http://www.samadhisound.com/ Music is the language of the spirit. http://www.youtube.com./w...5trBS-LWok ... I know, David doesn't seem to be one to get extremely excited over anything ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

That's one of my favorite pieces! I first got into Ryuichi Sakamoto when I heard it..... well, that, and his piano playing on Red Guitar!! I thought, "Man, I gotta check Sakamoto out further"! I was aware of Yellow Magic Orchestra, but now I was getting a better sense of his range. So Forbidden Colours made me run off and get the original on the Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence soundtrack, and Sakamoto's Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia. Now I'm a Die-hard fan of both Sylvian and Sakamoto, and I love all their collaborations as well as their solo work..... ... Ever seen the movie? Yeah, It was pretty wild! One interesting note, I've talked to a lot of people who assumed that because David Bowie stars in the picture, that it was Bowie singing "Forbidden Colours"! Most of 'em weren't even hip to who David Sylvian was.... another interesting note, Sakamoto once said in a late '80s interview that he really had a hard time playing militaristic roles in "Mr Lawrence", and "The Last Emperor", and that from he wouldn't accept any more roles like those... ... Japan has got to be one of the most underrated groups of thier time. They were truly incredible even in their early Glam/Funk days. I hope they reunite. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Ever seen the movie? It really shook me to the core. David Bowie transcends ~ a very interesting and effective casting. I just cried and cried at the end. Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

Ndeed, Great performances from everyone, especially Bowie and Tom Conti as Mr. Lawrence....and Kitano "Beat" Takeshi now a celebrated director made his acting debut as the prison guard! ...
