I like how that one works, since of course Donna Summer influenced Blondie (or at least Debbie Harry, as she readily admits). I don't understand why Donna ins't in there....the biggest slap in the face would be if that one hit wonder (I know she's had more than one hit but in comparison to Donna) Gloria Gaynor gets in just based on "I Will Survive". BTW, related to Donna, is Diana Ross in solo? If not, that's telling.

didn't donna summer get her 1st grammy in, 2000 or something? i remember people were pissed. half were like "WTF???" and the other half were thinking "it's about time!" lol

now back to MADONNA..if she is inducted who do you think should be the presenter?

Kylie?
Britney?

Janet Jackson?

i'll be happy if she decides to put some actual songs on it, lol.

please let it be more ray of light/like a prayer than the last 3

albums. pray

so,you want more of a pop album as opposed to a dance/electronica CD?

oh god yes, i so hope she will record another pop-ish album.

perhaps a bit more alternative though. stuff like mer girl would be a
nice addition to a pop album.

and i don't really mind the electronics at all, but i just wish she'd
come up with some beautiful melodies again. memorable ones.

confessions did have some, but i still don't really like that album a
whole lot.

my fav madonna discs are still:

like a prayer/ray of light/erotica/the first album

Madonna will still be in 2008, because I think the cut-off for nomination is that your record had to be out before June of the eligible year. I think that was what was being said here when it was Prince's turn. He should've been eligible in 2003 if it was just based on the year, but because "For You" and "Soft And Wet" missed the cut-off, 2004 was the first year he was eligible, and he got in the first time.

I don't understand how they missed the cutoff. Isn't "For You" cearly from 1978?

it came out too late in the year 1978 to qualify for a 2003 induction.

???? No! Not even close! Donna won her latest in 1997, for the first ever best dance record (she was nominated for said award in 2000 but beat out by the last big dance hit ever...."Believe"). Her nod came from a rather strange single, "Carry On", which is not one of her finest moments but a pure piece of excessive hi-nrg euro deacadance, complete with a children's choir. It actually appeared on a Girigio Moroder album from 1992, then later on a DOnna collection in 1993. Stranger still, it was released (or rereleased) as a single in 1996. Then she went on to win this surprise award. Competition included Pet Shop Boys "To Step Aside" (which was only a single in America and I think their first ever nod) and Gina G. "Just A Little Bit", a cheap but clear example of the kind of dance pop that was hitting at that time (and there was dance music on the charts at that time). I think Prodigy and some ohter techno act got the nod, too. The only person I remember being pissed at that for being kind of controverisal (in fact, it was probaly was because she is a pionneer in the music and not for that specfic record) was Carson Daly during the pre-show where they announced some winners. He was sitting with Tabitha Soren, who said she was thought it was kind of cool. Donna's other grammys are:

Last Dance Best R&B Female Vocal
Hot Stuff Best Rock Female Vocal
He's A Rebel and Forgive Me Best Inspirational Vocal (She is probably very proud of these awards for non singles since she is Born Again)

She is an unsual Grammy winner in the fact that she's won for various catogeries nearly each time. Hardly just a queen of disco! Strangely, I would consider her more pop but she's never won in that catogery (I think she had a nod for "MacArthur Park" and something else from that era).

Yeah. I didn't mean to razz you, but I would understand it being kind of strange if that was in fact Donna's first award. I mean, "Carry On" might be one of her weakest tracks (Again, the album it originally appears on is a Girgio Moroder album...fans only are aware or it because it appears on her now OOP but fromerly praised double CD "Anthology").

That ain't right! The only studio album you have is "Mistaken Identity". I would say get "Once Upon A Time" or "Bad Girls" immediately (like leave your house, see if some place is open 24 hours and has them available!) but that might be overwhelming. I would say go in order (alhtough I wouldn't pick up her very first one, "The Hostage", available as an import). There is this set, "Choronchiles", which has the first three American albums. They are very good, but not really good like "Once Upon A TIme..."....Go get the set, although if you look hard enough, it might be cheaper to buy all three albums seperately. Sadly, a fine single album (her biggest hits were the double albums, available as single CDs, packed to the rim for time) "I Remember Yesterday" is out of print, along with most of her eighties output (which has been out of print). Just do your best, I guess.

only thing i know was after AL she had 3 albums and a greatest hits package left on her contract with WB.

Interesting...thanks. cool

Do you think she wants to get off WB? I'd say they did a great job promoting COADF, in fact check out this article: http://money.cnn.com/maga.../index.htm

It was sure pimped like crazy over here in Japan! No doubt the promo tour she did here in late 2005 helped a lot too. And the results showed when the tour got here:

Osaka Dome, Osaka, Japan
Sept. 16-17, 2006
$7,379,553
50,623 / 50,623
2 / 2 sellouts

Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan
Sept. 20-21, 2006
$11,463,877
71,231 / 71,231
2 / 2 sellouts

wink

Also, glad to see I'm not the only person who is speculating about her RRHOF prospects! nod cool

at one point before American Life Madonna and WB were having lots of problems. The president didn't want of may for the promo or photoshoots. They were suing over Maverick and there were lots of buzz of her leaving WB. HOwever I think they have changed managment at WB so she may not have the same beef

According to the latest word on Madonnatribe, this new album news is all FALSE.She's going to do more charity in Africa, release some more children's books (yawn) and put out her own fragrance next year. No new album.Rumour is that she's already set to tour again in 2008.

Although DrownedMadonna has proven to be a more reliable source than Madonnatribe,I wouldn't take any of these rumors seriously.I don't even think Madonna has decided what she will do next,or when she will do it.A tour in 2008? I wonder if she really plans that far in advance?

I might be in the minority here, but I'd love for Madonna to continue with Stuart Price. With him, she seems really inspired.

I agree.I like Stuart and I would be disappointed if she didn't work with him again. However, this time she should only do half of the album with him...maybe 6 songs or so.Work with two other producers on the other songs, but probably not Mirwais this time around.

indeed they have changed management. in fact, Warner Bros. Recods was sold and is no longer has anything to do with AOL-Time-Warner except for the name.

perhaps. but it was prior to the label being sold that she was having trouble. it was over AOL stock options and control of Maverick and what-not.
