In my House is hotter than any Vanity 6 or Appolonia 6 track. Fact? [Edited 10/2/06 10:28am]

Perhaps. However, if you included Vanity 6, then the answer would be no. "Nasty Girl" wipes the floor with "In My House".

oh? I meant vanity 6, edit... In My House is a jam and a half, but "Nasty Girl" has one of the best hooks of any Prince song, ever. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

It sounds like a great Prince song.
I love Rick James, but he made a lingerie clad all girl group and a pinstripe suit gangster looking band that featured do-rags...sounds familiar My Legacy

oh? I meant vanity 6, edit... Well then the answer really is no. I don't even think that is the Mary Jane Girls' best song. I like "Candy Man" more than "In My House". add edit [Edited 10/2/06 10:34am]

It's a funky track, but I prefer "Nasty Girl" and "Sex Shooter".

There's no doubt The Mary Jane Girls were more talented than Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 but I like The Mary Jane Girls' music the least of the three. Andy is a four letter word.

Love it, they got all the "6" women beat vocally, but for "hotness" I'll go w/ "Nasty Girl"...

"In My House" was FONKY. But I liked "All Night Long" better. As far as the comparison to Vanity/Appolonia 6 goes, I would say that "Nasty Girls" and "Sex Shooter" are just as hot. The only difference is the Mary Jane Girls are better singers.[Edited 10/2/06 10:28am]

Isn't this really another Prince vs Rick James thread since they were the real musicians behind the music?I doubt if any members of both groups ever picked up an instrument. That said, I prefer Boys over In My House, but would pick Nasty Girls overall.

I love Rick James, but he made a lingerie clad all girl group and a pinstripe suit gangster looking band that featured do-rags...sounds familiar Well, actually, Rick already had the idea of doing the Mary Jane Girls BEFORE P hit with Vanity6. When Denise was dating Rick, he told her he was going to put a girl group around her. More than likely, she told P this when she hooked up with P. Similar to P beating Rick to the punch with one of Rick's concept with the film Purple Rain. Rick had talked about doing this musical film in 82 called "Alice In Ghettoland" which would feature himself, Teena, the Stone City Band, etc. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Well..... SORTA. Rick didn't actually play the Bass on his recordings or The Mary Jane Girls. "He's a musician's musician..."

It just looks suspicious--Process & The Do Rags and the Mary Jane Girls. But Prince has a talent for incorporating others' ideas into his own thing, so maybe HE stole it like you say. Actually, I heard of both Rick's bands before Prince's! Rick was slightly more mainstream at the time I think. [Edited 10/2/06 14:27pm] My Legacy

[Edited 10/2/06 14:27pm] I'll admit that Process and the Do Rags may have been Rick copying after Prince and Rick even started dressing like Prince in later years. However, Rick already had protegees before Prince. In 1979, Rick's second year, he had Teena Marie and in 1980 had a separate Stone City Band album out. Prince's first protegee act was The Time in 1981. Also, Rick came out the box with an outrageous stage presence. Prince wasn't really outrageous until he went on the tour with Rick. I can believe that Rick had thought of The Mary Girls first because he had already done other things first that Prince later did. Andy is a four letter word.

I think the whole mix of rock & funk that Prince gets so much credit for was called "funk punk" by Rick first. No doubt Prince learned a few things from him (maybe what NOT to do as well!). My Legacy
