Mirror Images - 'Tidal Wave' - Ronnie Laws/'Who Got Da Props' - Black Moon

My dad used to play the hell outta 'Pressure Sensitive'. Cover to cover. Til it was just ingrained in my head. Didn't really like it or dislike it as a kid. It was just always there. I rediscovered it just after college when I heard 'Who Got Da Props' and I heard the instantly recognizable sample from 'Tidal Wave'. And it was like a breath of fresh air. Ever had albums like that? Albums you forgot about and then something comes along to remind you of them and suddenly it's like incredible?

'Enta Da Stage' is pretty damn special too. Black Moon (along with Souls Of Mischief, Lords Of The Underground, etc) is another one of those great forgotten, underrated hip-hop groups from the early 90's. I'm convinced that era, if somebody ever does a true retrospective, will go down as one of the most inventive, vital periods in hip-hop. Cats were just doin' it.

Anyway, grab either one of these recordings and you'll be doing yourself a favor.

I agree.. both albums are great, and Black Moon certainly earned their place in Hip Hop.

I like that version of "Tell Me Something Good" by Ronnie Laws.

Enta da Stage doesn't have one bad cut on it, Smif n Wesson's debut was also good. Boot Camp Click?

And, of course, the classic 'Always There'.
