Ok I knew her song Snow for almost a year now, and I have been listening to Last Unicorn and especially The Mummers' Dance for the last couple of weeks now. Moody and mytic. Music with a Celtic flavour is quickly becoming a favourite

Personally, I don't rate her first couple of albums as they're mainly traditional songs and just sound like any folky artist.

It was with Parallel Dreams that Loreena started to become truly interesting with her own compositions nestling amongst the traditional songs. And from that point on, the music developed more and more.

The Visit is a great album, with a stunning version of 'Greensleeves' that initially sounds completely off the wall, but the beauty of which finally emerges after a few listens.

I would suggest, however, that you start with The Mask And Mirror which to me is the definitive Loreena McKennitt CD. Everything she does well is demonstrated perfectly on this album and it's almost impossible picking a favourite track from it although 'The Bonny Swans' is a contender.
Her last studio album (before the upcoming An Ancient Muse) is also brilliant. Book Of Secrets continues the evocative sounds that appear on Mask and Mirror and the final track is truly beautiful.

Oh, and A Winter Garden is a great buy for Christmas.

Finally, a few years back, her back catalogue was fully remastered, so ensure any CDs you buy are amongst those remasters.
