Happy Birthday Madonna

Madonna is 44 today. I'm not a big fan anymore but I have to say that before I really got into Prince she was the first artist that I was mad about. Around 1985 to 1989 my walls were plastered in posters, calendars etc of her. I collected every picture disc and remix I could get my hands on. The last album I bought of hers was Like A Prayer, still her best album IMHO. Made better these days by the fact that Prince was involved in a few tracks on that album. I still respect her musically and she seems to have retained that mega-star status through re-invention of her image. She still gets a lot of stick, credibility wise (I'm sure some of you will contribute your own views on this). Anyhoo, many happy returns of the day to Madonna. smile
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

Happy Birthday to my girl. wink She really inspires me, particularly coming from Michigan. She almost feels like the older sister I never had, which is kind of a tender thing for me.

Here's a little news and gossip about Madonna's upcoming CD...

***A radio station in New York (106.1 WBLI in Long Island) has been playing a "new" Madonna song called "Revenge",claiming it is the first single from her new CD.Don't be fooled! The song is actually an outtake from the 'Ray Of Light' sessions in 1997 and it will NOT appear on the new Madonna CD.

***Here's a partial tracklist to the new Madonna CD.Please note, these are songs I have *HEARD* about, but they may or may not appear on the album! Madonna records dozens of songs before finally deciding on which songs she will use. So,don't get excited until we have a FINAL tracklist...

"Believe Her"---this is one of two songs produced by Dr.Dre

"Liquid Love"---a William Orbit collaboration from 2000 that is being re-worked for the new CD (rumor!)

"La Petit"---another William Orbit collaboration from 2000 that is being re-worked for the new CD (another rumor!)

"Die Another Day"---this is the theme song to the upcoming James Bond film of the same name.It was originally titled "Can You See My Mind?".It will be released as a single in October and the video premieres on MTV in a few weeks.

"Unless It's You"

"Ziggy Stardust"---Yes,Maddy has recorded a remake of the 1972 David Bowie classic.Somehow,I doubt that it will appear on the album.

"Rock Vanity"---there is a rumor that this will be the title track to Maddy's album.

Happy Belated Birthday To The Mother Of Reinvention..

"Borderline"{1984}...I went through my 45's this weekend adn pulled this one out and played it. It bought back all kind of memories of the year 1984. This was Madonna's first top 10 song and it got a lot of airplay on R&B radio. Remember back in the 80's she was viewed and promoted as a dance artist. Plus she got nice synth grooves from producers like Reggie Lucas and Nile Rodgers. A few of her songs made the R&B charts as well as the pop charts. I love Borderline (I prefer the 45rpm single version over the album version)

Also how about...

"Papa Don't Preach"{1986}...Another underrated Madonna song. How come 80's radio stations don't play this one anymore. This song generated a lot of controversy in 1986. Some people were saying that this song was an anti-abortion song. However some were saying it was simply a song in which a girl is stating that she is going to keep her baby AKA HER MAN. Whatever the case may be...she got people talking(about her music this THIS TIME..LOL) This is a great Madonna track.

Even though she has evolved...I really love her 80's stuff like the two songs I listed above. I didn't get a chance to get in here Friday to give birthday props so...

As far as Madonna's first album is concerned,my favorite track is the last song "Everybody".In late 1982,that song was popular in New York dance clubs. It's a great dance track that's more funky than anything else on the album.

"Papa Don't Preach" signaled a new direction for Madonna. That song, along with the breathtaking ballad "Live To Tell",featured mature, introspective lyrics that proved she wanted to be taken seriously as an artist.
